Hello,
Whenever I try to save a scene in DS3A, I receive the follow error in the log:

"Unable to rename temp file "C:/Program Files (x86)/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio3/Content/Scenes/Halloween.daz.tmp" to "C:/Program Files (x86)/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio3/Content/Scenes/Halloween.daz"

Needless to say the scene does not scene. This is happening with all my scenes. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks.

Windows 7 doesn't allow writing to the Program Files folder, for security purposes.

You could try changing the Daz Studio Temporary Files folder. That's Edit Menu > Preferences > Directories tab.

My temp folder is set to:
C:/Users/user-name/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/Studio3/temp

(Make sure that you are not actually saving your scene to the Program Files folder first Smile).

Ahhh, that explains it. I was saving to the Program Files.

So that explains why some stuff installed to the Virtual Store thingie. If I install all my content to My Documents, would that be ok?

Thanks, I'm still getting used to using a PC again.

I think you should, Program Files is a special area in W7 and Vista. Only app data should be written to the PF area, and user data can go anywhere else, but My Documents seems to be the preferred area.

You could always create a completely different folder for it too if you like. It doesn't really matter where user data is stored, as long as it is not in Program files.

Hope you don't mind me butting in, but it is bedtime where Carnite lives, and it could be hours before you get a reply.

Best wishes.

Not at all Jimmy. Windows 7 is a bit strange. The last time I used windows was when XP first came out so I'm trying to figure out how Windows 7 works. I like it ok, just takes some getting used too.

Oh, forgot to ask. Do I need to worry about the files in the VirtualStore? Should I delete them or something?

Thanks.

Lol - feel free to butt in, Jimmy. Good advice. I have my Runtime on a separate drive, as I like to back up My Documents, and don't want to be backing up the Runtime too often.

That's actually a good idea. I have an external hard drive now so I could install all the content there.

Cool.....

I really know nothing much about the Virtual Store. What files do you have in there? Maybe someone else can better answer your question.

If you have already moved your "real" content out of the VirtualStore then it's perfectly fine to remove it.

Thanks guys. I'm starting a fresh install with all the content to My Document instead of Program Files. So far so good.

Thanks again.

The files in VirtualStore are just the files that were to be written to the Program Files folder, so if you haven't reinstalled or otherwise recovered them you can just move them into your real content folder.
