V-Wing Heavy Interceptor [Commercial]LIVE (UPDATE)
(UPDATE) Daz3D have now updated the V-Wing Heavy Interceptor to include the Genesis 3 & 8 Pose files as advertised, so they should now be in there. Just go to the store and redownload the product to gain access to this functionality, and enjoy.
Hi there guys, I'm relatively new to these forums and have recently become a Daz PA, I'll be releasing product for Daz3D under the name TALON, and I just wanted to give you all a heads up regarding my upcoming debut release on Daz3D.
I thought I'd start off with a Star Wars inspired (seemed appropriate seeing as we have a new movie just around the corner) vehicle asset for you all to get to grips with. The awesome new V-Wing Heavy Interceptor. This compact but powerful starfighter comes packed with features, fully rigged landing gear, cockpit canopy, variable vector wings and a Poser Preset for the pilot. This thing also comes with a battleworn and clean texture set, so you can add a little variety when you deploy a squadron of these bad boys to do some serious damage.
With future releases I intend to do more sci-fi themed vehicles and environments and props, so if you like what you've seen here watch this space.
I hope you enjoy.

Nice hull shape. :) Looks like a cross between an X-Wing and Klingon Bird Of Prey.
The guns seem a little on the thick side, though (gunship-style steerable turrets on the main body might have been more practical if it was real). Are those separate loadable props we could rescale? Or possibly with their own material zones, so that we could reduce opacity if we want to replace them with other weapon or sensor models we have?
Also, are the pilot poses Genesis 3 compatible?
For your information, this product has now been released and can be found here:

Thanks for the interest Xeno. Yeah, I think that was probably subliminally what I was going for, the Bird of Prey is one of my fave Star Trek ship designs, so it is not a surprise that a bit of that influenced the design, as well as the requirements to make it fit the 'V' Wing name. The fuselage has a little contemporary aircraft in there, and a little A-Wing, and the engines are meant to look like re-purposed X-Wing engines, so it looks like you get a lot of thrust for a smaller ship, but I hope the result is quite unique.
The cannons are a little big for a ship of this small size, but that is the idea behind the design, to be the 'Little Ship That Can', a smaller craft with a lot of stopping power. The main cannons are supposed to be rapid fire repeaters, so more rapid fire than Star Wars laser cannons usually are, more like a machine-gun, so the in universe reason for their size is that they require serious cooling systems to prevent overheating, and that is the reason for the fat barrels, they're actually meant to be that big to house the masses of powerful cooling coils around the actual barrel of the cannon. That said the guns aren't really that big if you consider some of the other Star Wars craft out there, the Snowspeeder had pretty big guns for it's size, as did the Prequel era ARC-170s, there were massive guns on that thing. It isn't meant to follow a more contemporary-esque realistic approach to the weapon systems, so with that in mind I have not designed this to have weapon hard-points which allow you to switch out your weapons, with this craft I'm not going for customisability, it is more of a case of what you see is what you get. Though I'm not adverse to adding such modification options for future releases. As I mentioned earlier this is a more Star Wars inspired design, but in the future I'll be looking at more near future style sci-fi designs which might follow a more contemporary approach to weapon systems and customisability. I'll definitely be looking to take peoples' crits and suggestions on board and look at introducing them where appropriate in future releases.
I'm sorry, that was a longer winded answer than intended. And to your final question. Yes, it is Genesis 3 compatible.
This is a great model, reminds me of the old starwars stuff, and great rigging as well, most people forget that, but you've gone the extra mile, excellent work !!!
Thanks for the kind words, first time rigging in Daz too, so that was interesting. I'd done hierarchy based linking for things that required articulation for animation before in the past in 3DS Max, but this was the first time I took the dive into doing a full rigging set up. It was easier in Daz than I was expecting.
And yeah, I was definitely going for an old school original trilogy feel with the design of this ship, with this intended to be an additional new fighter design to bolster Rebel Alliance space forces after the Battle of Endor, salvaging old X-Wing parts, developed by perhaps the same design team behind the highly successful A-Wing starfighter, only this ship would instead of being built for raw speed, be designed to be highly maneuverable and have serious stopping power in the weapons department, making it a good compliment the fighters already in their arsenal, In fact the paint scheme was actually inspired by an early Ralph McQuarrie A-Wing concept (now seeing service in the Star Wars Rebels animated TV show), and I used it to pay homage and give some clues to its possible lineage. See the art below for reference.
Cool ship, does a good job of drawing on the classics while doing its own thing.
Are the materials IRAY or 3Delight? I can't tell from the product page. I might get this today.
Thanks for the kind praise Odaa, that is exactly the sorta thing I was going for. Reminicent of the old guard of ships, so it wouldn't look out of place flying or sat in a hangar next to one, but also very much it's own beast. The next ship I'll most likely be looking at bringing to Daz will be this one pictured below, still needs a bit of work, this is a detail paint over on a fairly basic mesh, but it gets the impression across. Once again going for that Original Trilogy feel, this would be a Rebel troop transport cobbled together from a Corellian Light Courier class ship as an equivilant of the Imperial Sentinel Lander or Lambda Shuttle. After all the Alliance can't nick an Imperial Shuttle every time they want a troop transport. Before this though I'll more than likely bring out a few environment sets, a little less work than a large ship. So watch this space.
Cool tkdrobert, I hope you enjoy it, and the textures are PBR, so IRAY. Haven't really looked at 3Delight yet, but IRAY is so good, why would you look any further?
Once again thanks for the interest guys, and I can't wait to see those renders.
Now it is time to head off to the midnight show of The Last Jedi.
May the Force be with you!!
That ship looks awesome. I'm a big Star Wars fan, so I look forward to your products.
One question about the V-Wing. I can't seem to find the Genises 3 pose. Does it show under the Smart Content?
Please add spare parts or some extra pieces for variation.
Daz has so few actual spaceships- there's a lot of room for variation.
I already have plans to do my own modifcations and/or usage but all the help....helps...
I thought there were poses too - need to check the product description - but none seem to be included.
Just checked and the descriptive text states a deated pose for G3M but the detail just shows the two props and texture count.
Hi Simon, should be in there mate, I can’t remember where that file is stored off the top of my head, but will check when I get home and let you know. It is definitely in there somewhere though.
Hi there AVXP, there will definitely be more customisability with the next ship that is currently in the works. A Corellian style ship is by its very nature heavily customisable, so there will be a lot of that at play here. Will do a stock version and the military upgrade, plus perhaps a few different payload/cargo hold configurations, different weapon systems to be switched out etc, should be lot of fun to play with when it comes out, but as I said earlier, I’ve got a few other products to get out the door first.
Just looked at teh installed fiel list from within DIM and ...nothing; just the /data files, the Support files, the .dufs for the props and the textures.
Also, a small point - if you (as I did) parent a prop (such as a laser beam) to each wing end pod and use the deploy morph, the right wing (I think it is) seems to have an invers eeffect on the parented prop.
Thanks looking forward.
You're right, I've just checked for the file and it isn't there. Apologies. Not to worry, will have a word with the powers that be at Daz and see what the procedure is for this, I imagine I'll just have to re-upload the thing, and then you guys can re-download the package. Will get on that now.
Cheers for the heads up.
That's a hilarious avatar, by the way.
Saw the new movie yet? No spoilers!
Saw it Wednesday night for the midnight show. It was interesting.
And thanks, was from a cool pic opportunity they had at the first Star Wars Celebration Europe event a few years back.
Here is my 1st try using your fighter.
Nice.
I'd go to Daz 3D technical support about that, I don't deal with anything that end, but I'm sure they'll be able to help you out. And thanks for the kind words regarding the ship.
And while we're on that subject, I've just submitted an updated version of the V-Wing with the missing Pose files included, and as an extra bonus, on top of the Genesis 3 figure support I had originally included, I've added support for Genesis 8 figures too, by way of an apology for the error that occurred. I don't know how long it'll take the Daz team to put the updated version up on the product page, but as soon as I know it has gone live I'll let you know. As I understand it, those who have already purchased the product will just be able to re-download the package free of charge.
Enjoy guys,
Oh, yes, and I'd like to thank TKDRobert for bringing this error to my attention. Appreciate it.
Any word from DAZ Studio Harold?
Hi Nautious, thanks for the interest, and in fact just a moment ago I got an update from Daz that the updated version is all good to go, so expect that to go live soon. As soon as they inform me it is live, I'll let you guys know.

Another render using your fighter
Thanks Harold. Lookinbg forward to this.
Nice bit of convoy escort duty there tkdrobert. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it Nautious.
Oh, and with this product's last issue finally laid to rest, look out for news of my next product. I'll be posting some previews of that soon. So keep your eyes peeled for that.
