winter doldrums.  regrets i never learned to ski

    ...

Twenty years ago (I was 52) but at the time, out of work and uninsured.  But finding myself with time on my hands I had regrets that I was in the best shape of my life (bodybuilding & motorcycling) but although I had rollerskated and iceskated when I was a kid in the '50s, I had never tried rollerblading.  It looked like so much fun.  So I bought a pair of rollerblades and quickly got the hang of it on the relatively flat parking lot of my condo.  But then I started venturing out onto the street where the low slow grade of the streets & sidewalk were deceiving in how fast one could find oneself moving without out realizing it.  Going was fun but stopping quickly became my nightmare.  A couple of tumbles made me realize I was now 52 years old, uninsured, and playing with toys that could easily break my bones.  I got over my regret of not being an avid rollerblader.frown

...as I call them "the Wheels of Doom".

I used to ski, like 45 - 50 years ago.  Was pretty decent, not one for the expert headwalls or did downhill/slalom racing but did get into a bit of what was referred to then as "hotdogging" (now called "freestyle skiing" which is an Olympic event).  We were considered the "black sheep" of the slopes at the time who were not content to just carve graceful turns and go downhill. Back then had no thoughts about the pounding the joints took from landings after aerial tricks and particularly skiing through what are called moguls (mounds of snow on a slope created by skiers making sharp turns in deep snow cover) as I as having too much fun as likely this contributed to joint issues in later years. Thankfully never broke anything but all that aggressive skiing likely contributed to the joint issues I have today.  Ah yes, when you're young and stupid you think you're invincible, then years down the road it all catches up to remind you maybe that wasn't such a good idea.

None of us are actually here. We're all inside of a giant tiger's mouth, trying to see if it has stripes on the inside too.

Depends on whether "it" means the tiger or its mouth?

Just today autocorrect decided that instead of Krakow I probably meant Kraken.

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,065

...opened a box store brand wheat thins yesterday, so I guess that counts as releasing the crackers.

Would that be similar to leaving the door open at the loony bin?
