To date, Final Wars is my absolute favorite of the series. And no human character in ANY of the movies beats Captain Gordon for sheer badassitude. :D

Nah.  No out of work wrestler out bad-asses the only human character to ever take out the Big G by himself... it's clearly Dr. Serizawa for the win.

Different kind of badass. See, Dr Serizawa had a badass brain, but not the attitude. He's more "Beware the nice ones". Gordon was a badass in attitude as well. Besides, didn't Gordon go on to get elected mayor of a major American city, help rescue his daughter, and then join the World Street Fighter tournament with his spinning lariat? :D :P

Is this where I post my Godzuki fan-fic?  laugh  I saw this thread today at lunch and have been singing the theme song to the 80's cartoon all afternoon - just thought I'd share my misery. For those the right age to remember, enjoy your earworm:

    Thirty stories high!

    Breathing fire,

    His head in the sky!

    Godzilla!

    Godzilla!

A variation upon that idea, a meal for each of Ghidorah's heads! wink

Today I "frankensteined" three items to create "King Ghidorah" (occasionally called "Ghidrah").  I started with the old D*Z Hydra, standing it upright, scaling some of the proportions and then hiding the forelegs.

Then I loaded, scaled and positioned the wings from Gareee's "Draconian" set.  Ghidorah's wings as depicted in the movies are somewhat more like fish fins. no discernible "arms", just elongated "spines" between which tissue is stretched.  As KG is basically a three headed dragon, I figured more traditional dragon type wings would serve well enough.

Finally, I decided to load, replicate and position three copies of the Dinokonda.  Originally, I was going to use the serpentine necks and heads that are part of the Hydra, but they seemed a tad small for this arrangement.  So I hid those body parts and used the more fanciful and fearsome looking "serpent".

Right now, everything is colored a golden yellow, KG's primary scheme with no textures.  As such the Dinokonda's ventral plating (which is modeled) "broadcasts" the point of mesh intersection.  Procedural texturing and displacement will hopefully blend the elements better.  But that is a task for later.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Nice thread. I am also a Godzilla fan and I remember watching some of the Godzilla movies in the cinema

when I was younger and how these movies impressed me, so I always waited impatiently for the next part.

I have a little collection of these movies on the DVDs and just started watching Godzilla movie from 1956 (black and white).

Sadly I do not have "Godzilla vs. Hedorah" and some others, which were my favorites.

I can't tell from the pic, are you including the twin tails?  I am fairly certain KG has 2 tails.

Looks really good, very ferocious and formidable version!

Yeah, I've been trying to avoid spoilers as best I can, so I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

But what good is a thread like this without art of some kind. So here's something I put together a few weeks ago. It’s Scott Ayers’ “Final Wars” Godzilla with my custom morph and procedural material set listed in the opening post. The “water” is one of the “toppers” from AntFarm’s display stands. I doubled the “Y” scale and plugged the watery “foam” into the displacement channel. The threatening sky is from AntFarm’s “Twister”.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Great image, although the waves are too big in proportion.

Uh, the "waves"?  Sorry, I don't see any water in the shot.  But the one I've attached to this post does.  I used two copies of AntFarm's "water topper" elemnt from his display bases collection.  One is scaled more narrow than the other, but stretched along its vertical axis in the center with a "magnet".  I used "displacement" upon the foam laden texture to make it look really "frothy" and surging.

The focal point is Valandar's "Kaiju" with my previously described mods to make it look more like Godzilla.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Thanks Much! Yes, that did take a few hours. And it's the largest single scene I ever have done. No postwork except for the speed effect on the helicopter. I really wanted to portray a Godzilla who is not a bad guy per se, but you definitely don't want him mad at you.

hahah I love the people in this shot. Their faces and poses are awesome. The only thing that throws it off to me is the darker skin tones. The woman's skin on the far right in particularly looks odd and throws the image off, imo. The rest of the image looks fantastic!! The poses and expressions are GREAT!

Where did you get the Godzilla and Kong figures? I'd love to have them - Godzilla in particular I'd love to get ahold of.

Thanks! I don't have any proper dark skin tones textures for V4, M4, or any Genesis 1-3 people. I did what I could. I can live with it for now. The Lorenzo Lorez figures use their darker skin textures, so if those are off, not my fault! :)

The Godzilla is Valendar's Kaiju The Giant Monster, morphed like crazy, with Garee's Trex Plus backplates(3 sets), with Scott Ayers Final Wars Godzilla for the arms, as Kaiju has five fingers, and Godzilla has four(though the new Shin Godzilla film shows he is growing a fifth finger, and has six toes!) Kong is just the Daz Millenium Gorilla with the brown texture.

What's the story behind those maser tanks?  Did you model them?  They are really impressive!

Thanks! No, I didn't model them. I kitbashed them from the Bisley 4300 and 4301 tank kit here on Daz, with the Commsaber radar/antenna dish for the emitter. Also used a Next Gen matter/antimatter coil prop from a Trek site for the neck section.  I've had those tanks floating in my runtime for a while, intending to make the maser tanks, and finally just did it. Glad you like! Btw, how exactly did you separate the Rex plus backplates? I have them parented to the Kaiju's chest, but since me and a friend are planning a fancomic to post on DA, I really want to do what you did with them. posing him would them be SO much less of a pain. :3

I had to load both my custom Goji along with the original Rex Plus plates figure to remind myself. how I did it.

Basically, I saved each  body part group of the plates as separate props.  The "string" is grouped into sections like, "head", "upper neck", "neck", "chest", "abdomen", Hip" and several tail parts.  I used UV Mapper to load the original .OBJ file, select a particular "group", delete the rest and save the remaining plates a s particular .OBJ based group.  Then I would load the original again and save the next group in line.  I repaeted that process until I reached the end.

Then I opened Poser and loaded the Kaiju figure, morphing it the way I wanted.  Then I would import the first plate prop.  Actually, I chose the second in the series purely from personal preference.  I scaled and positioned it around the Kaiju's "neck02" body part and then I "parented" the plate prop to that body part.  I continued this process with each body part segment, picking whatever plate prop I liked best for that region, scaling or even rotating them as I saw fit.  When I got to the tail sections, I used the same "tail 3" plate prop, shrinking it just a bit more for each tail segment, alternatively flipping it so it wouldn't look like a simple repeat.

By doing it this way, when I bend the monster or twist his tail, the series of individual props follow the poses of the body.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Ahh, ok. I was gonna hide the various bits, but I already have three sets to get the Heiseiish look I wanted, so my way would multiply that to insanity. I just happen to have UVmapper, also! So I have to try out your technique. Thanks for the info!

So I can't figure out how to delete the unwanted parts... I selected the head group, but see no way to delete the rest. O.o confuzzled.

It migt be different for the free version, but in UV Mapper Pro, you select the material group you wish to keep, then "right click" and choose "select inverse" and then press the "delete" key on your keyboard.  The program will prompt if you "really delete selection?" and you click the "yes".

Of course, you don't HAVE to use UV mapper. You can employ any program that understands "materail" and "group" selections.
