...is that a Yak-140 in the sky, an if so, where did you find it?

No, that looks like a Veritech from Robotech, in plane mode. Or Valkyrie from Macross if you want the original term.

...A Yak 41/141 (misnomered in my OP)

Three prorotypes (two flying and one for ground tests) were built before the project was cancelled because of budget issues

Yeah, I see. Except the Valkyrie has variable geometry wings. And it was actually based on the F-14, but altered to allow the transformation sequence.

    Nice renders guys!

We really could use some Maser Trucks/Tanks in the Daz store.  They are definitely some of the most recognizable vehicles in Kaiju lore, even if they are rather ineffective.  Watching Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth now.

  • Got a couple more for anyone interested...

...nice, love the Godzilla vs. King Kong.
  • Months late, but that looked like a Schell figure. The AVF-35 or VGF-14 from Vanishing Point. Definitely not a Yakolev.

Thanks! However, That's Gorosaurus Kong's fighting, not Godzilla. :)

Still waiting on someone to turn the Crystal Dragon into Space Godzilla... :D

I dunno if that would make a decent SpaceGodzilla. Btw, would you be at all willing to make some more addons for Kaiju? I've used it to make a great Godzilla and many other classic monsters, and I keep hoping you might make another expansion set for even more options... cos I hate to do even MORE kitbashing! XD

The derelict railroad bridge looked like a perfect set for a Godzilla scene.

I don't recall Godzilla visiting the UK, but Gorgo did.

I've a vintage copy of Famous Monsters of Filmland with a Basil Gogos painting of Gorgo on the cover. One of my treasures!

Wasn't there another British kaiju movie about a giant gorilla? I seem to remember the name was a pretty close ripoff of Kong. I also remember the movie wasn't nearly as good as Gorgo, even to my ten-year-old self.

anyone seen Shin Godzilla yet? Also another one being worked on Godzilla King Of Monsters due in 2019 with Mothra, King Ghidorah and Rodan so far. Also there is a Godzilla Monster Planet  it's an animated movie and of course Godzilla vs Kong

  • I purchased a copy of Shin Godzilla last Friday and watched it the same night. I'll give no spoilers except to say its......"different" :) I'm not sure Godzilla Purists will be all that happy with the result, but it's an interesting take on the genre. Did I enjoy it? Yes, I did, in the end :)

Shin Godzilla hit WalMart shelves here in the US today.  It feels like the Millenium era Godzilla movies as far as pacing (Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, Godzilla 2000, etc.).  So, lots of exposition between the Godzilla stuff.  They made a very respectable effort to accurately represent the military hardware of today IMHO, which unfortunately means no Maser tanks...

The theme soundtrack is a throwback to the original Godzilla movies, with a lot of electric guitar driven filler at interesting times - gotta make the chemical plant sequence seem sexy somehow I guess.  Yes there is an English dubbed version, or you can go with the subtitles.

This is by far the most powerful version of Godzilla we've seen to date I think. I won't explain further, those that have seen it will understand why I think this is the case, and for those that haven't, well I don't want to spoil it for ya.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I also watched Kong: Skull Island finally (hit store shelves in the last couple of weeks).  The Legendary Pictures efforts with Kong and Godzilla are simply awesome!  Monarch is my new favorite secret government organization...

Well, by who was involved, there's a total immersion for Evangelion fans- down to the music.

Wow, I was shocked at how much it leaned toward Evangelion and then WHAMMO they went all in.

And yeah, I felt like they always take a swipe at US film versions.
Like, culturally if you're so against US-yanked out versions of the property, stop letting anyone else make a 'zilla movie.

Last time, they had the look-a-like (I think Godzilla Final Wars, where he defeated 4 rivals in 4 minutes lol)

Including the old American type and in this one, they upped Godzilla's power to "Angel+Absolute-Terror-Field" levels.

    ---

so many weirdly different things in that movie.

My favorite is still Destroy All Monsters. One of the few where what happens before maonster action is still awesome.

  • Hey all! Hope all is well. So here's my newest...

Ironic, given that he was a Japanese creation. While I was in Japan, several of my Japanese friends had betting pools of their own about how long it would take us Americans to figure out how to "properly" pronounce "Godzilla" in Japanesecheeky

On a related sad note, Haruo Nakajima, the actor who was in the rubber suit in the original film recently died on Aug 8.crying

You'd be surprised at how hard it is for a Japanese person to say Godzilla, simply because Gojira is so ingrained as the true rendering of his name that it's a disconnect to say Godzilla. Some Americans have the same problem in reverse, myself included. Example: I cannot process the correct rendering of Destroyer's name, Destoroyah. Sounds goofy to me. I will always say Destroyer. Same for Ghidorah. I was raised with the name being Ghidrah, and just cannot use the other form. My GF MUST use the japanese renderings of the names, though I think it's mostly just to mess with me. >.>

Harou's passing is so depressing. He WAS Godzilla for me. Much as I love the later Godzilla actors, especially Ken Satsuma and Tom Kitigawa, Harou was the Godzilla I grew up with. We were hoping to meet him at G-fest next year if we could go, and if he was planning to be there... Now I'll never get that chance.

  • Decided to do this render, cos I wanna leave a bit of an info teaser for my fancomic...

Looks like you found the same static mesh I did some time ago, a remarkably faithful sculpt of the original 1954 Gojira.

It's from a dude on DA. That where you got yours? It's very accurate. I wish I knew how to rig it.

Yeah, I got it from Deviant Art as well, likely the same person.  Once sub-divided a cycle or two, it's a thing of beauty!  the dorsal fins have the samw sweeping points in just the right places.  (I have both the SA Arts and NECA '54 Goji' figurines at my computer desk, so it was easy to compare.)

    Sincerely,

    Bill

  • Snakesomethingorother? Yeah, I wanna use it for a couple shots in the fancomic, but not being rigged kinda kills that. :(

The Monsterarts figure's tail is too long, otherwise it's the clear winner over the NECA, thought that is a nice figure too. My favorite Monsterarts figure are the Ghidrah and Gamera 2 Gamera. The 2014 would be next, mainly cos I like the tweaks they made that fix some of my issues with that design.

  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,603

Funny enough, I feel the opposite.  The NECA tail is arguably a tad short, but otherwise I like it better as the head seems more proportionate to body.  It wasn't until the 90s when Goji's head "shrunk" in proportion to his body.

Just checking my download folder, yes, the maker is "Snake151".

    Sincerely,

    Bill

  • Yeah, Peanut head syndrome has gotten outta hand. One of the VERY few positive things I can say bout Shin is its head is more in proportion, though nothing else is. XD Ah, cool. Gonna check with a friend of mine on DA, Chris Schell, who makes those awesome Veritech-but-not UN Fleet mecha, he offered to give me a tutorial on rigging in Daz, cos that is what he rigs all his products in. Btw, notice I added more mods to the Godzilla I made from Kaiju? Made the claws alot larger and longer, and replaced the teeth which were originally kinda meh. Used the Kaiju addons horns for them all.

  • RedfernRedfern Posts: 1,603

I saw that ypu had reworked the claws upon the hands and feet, yes.  Sorry I didn't notice you had reworked the mouth, giving him more formidable teeth.  Had the "camera" been zoomed a bit closer to his head and his jaw opened a little wider, I would have likely caught the enhancements there.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

  • Ahh.. Well, ask and you shall recieve!
