JOINT CONTROLLED NORMALS

I have an idea to load multiple Normal maps onto one figure and then control the 'strength' of those normals by joints similar to JCMs. For example, I might create 4 different rib/chest normals. One each for Front & Back, Left & Right ribs. Then when the torso (say the chest) is bent forward, I would apply the two front ribs at 0% opacity so they disapear and the two back ribs (left & right) at 100% so they would be layered on top of any existing Torso normal. I know this can be done with the layered image editor but the process is entirely manual. My goal is to get skeletal and muscular details that only occur when a joint is bent or twisted. Is there any way, scripting or otherwise, Normals can be applied at varying degrees in an automated way?

Dunno, maybe the MatAnim scrip can be abused for it.
