Disappearing likes in the gallery?

I just noticed something here in my gallery.
There was a image that was at the beginning of the popular list in my gallery. It had 12-15 likes a couple of days ago but today only has 3. It was at the beginning of my popular listings since the galleries reopened (I don't remember exactly how many likes it had), but now is not even on the list. Nothing else seems to have changed in the gallery. I can imagine that maybe somebody accidently liked it and went back later to take it off but 9+? Obviously I'm not a big poster here so I don't normally get a lot of likes in the gallery but this seems strange.
Anybody know what is happening? Has it happened to anyone else?

not sure but wasn't there soemthing like you could click the like button several times on the same image? maybe they took the double likes out now?
There is another possibility, in that it's a rolling like list, so only likes in the last month? 2 months? count. Something like that happens with 'Trending Now' and 'Most Popular' in the stores at both Daz & Rendo, so the programming infrastructure is available to do something like it.
It it is the case, it'd be nice for it to have been said.

You'd have thought Gloria would avoid travelling in bouncy old Ford Transit Vans on Mondays by now, especially after a hard weekend of drinking making her feel queasy. (Sorry, possibly a UK only relavent joke)
There were comments in the NFTs forum thread that some artists were going to empty their gallery and delete their accounts here. If that did come to pass, then perhaps their gallery like would be cancelled too. I don't know the inner workings of the gallery just offering a possibility to what you are seeing. Losing 9+ votes seems like alot.
The new gallery format makes it easier to go in and unlike things as well. It is possible some people are removing their likes.
A user went and unliked all the likes they gave me, funny, but true. It gets done sometimes. The amount you mention of unlikes though sounds more like a gallery script detecting and removing likes done by bots. That happens too, as I've actually removed 2 games on GooglePlay after I detected distributed zombie computers worldwide bot downloading 2 games I had published. You ask yourself why would they bother with something so stupid but they do.
I'm thinking that this may be the most likely explanation. I checked the people who commented on it. One of them has apparently emptied their gallery. The "likes" folder on their gallery page is also empty. I don't know for sure if they had liked it when they commented but it seems to be the most likely explanation so far.

It doesn't appear, at least on the surface, that this is correct.
I removed my images and deleted the album they were all in. If I go back to "My Gallery" I still have a "My Likes" button. When I click on it, I still see all the images that I have liked.
My comments on those images are all still there, though I no longer have a button that lets me see which images I've commented on. Nor can I see comments of mine that have replies.
The missing buttons could relate to the Likes no longer being counted though. The gallery is byzantine enough.
If I click on the Like button for those images I still get the "Do you really want to remove your Like?" confirmation menu.

It doesn't seem to have happened to any of the other images there, just the one. All of the images in popular have been in the gallery since before the gallery reopened.
Maybe I'll open a ticket to see if there is an officiall explanation.

I actually wrote that reply twice. I went and checked what remains of my gallery, saw all the missing buttons, and assumed that the likes were gone.
I wrote the reply then paused right before hitting the post button. I went back and took a closer look. That's when I started scratching the surface a little deeper.
Now I only say it appears that its wrong. It's very possible that the system says that I liked an image, but isn't counting those likes because my album is gone. Who knows.
That is really cold. Gallery trolls...
Then again, I feel trolled by how long I have to watch the bouncing balls before the next page loads.
Personally I can't see anyone taking the effort to go back and remove a like. It would seem like a very odd thing to do.
I was joking. I don't believe in a group of individuals working as a unit liking then unliking images as an act of Trollery. The truth is that those Gallery pages take waaaaaay too long to load for this to be a REAL thing.
Seriously, I think it is more likely than not that it is some sort of glitch. It could even be people visiting the same page who are clicking the like heart forgetting they have already liked the image and well unliking the image without noticing. That would actually kind of make sense since if they liked the image the first time they saw it; then they probably still liked it when they saw it again. LOL.
That is exactly what happened to me @Pixel8ted. Once I realized what I was doing, I take my hand off my mouse and wait. I note how many likes before and then after I click like. But if I accidentally click twice, I hit it again to make my like stick. But I have never pulled a like later on for any reason.
If you unlike you get a confirmation box, so it is unlikely we get accidental unlikes :)
I have had several images do this very same thing. But on the ones I have noticed it isn't just a few off of an image but 30-40 likes missing. I just notice today an image from recent Christmas I posted had got up to 29 hearts. Today it has 7 hearts so I don't know how it drops by that number all at once. The largest I've seen in my image drops was I had one at 53 hearts and one day it dropped to 13 were it remains now. Just odd how it is not the same amount and doesn't effect images in that same time frame etc.
do likes remain if the liker loses their account?

The accounts & posts are not deleted, neither are the likes or gallery entries. You can verify for yourself by checking old posts from Chohole, for example. I reckon her account was locked after she died.

As of today 6/23/2023 the 1 or 2 images that had disappearing Likes on some of my images shows that all Likes are back. So I'm still unclear how they disappeared but they now are all back. Just wanted to update this thread to that change at least on my images.

I once had an image jump, almost instatly, from 29 likes to 41. It stayed that way for about a month and then dopped back down again to the old figure. I never did work out why.
