Noob Questions on Customization and Import/Export?

I am currently studying anatomy and figure drawing. I would like to have models in many shapes and sizes in different situations. I would also like to make some simple (low poly) models to bring into Manga Studio 5 as well as some higher poly models to bring into my other 3D programs for use. (Blender, Sketchup Pro, Thea Render, Fusion 7.5) Are there any limitations I should be aware of with DAZ Studio? How deep is the customization levels to get more realistic looking models and does DAZ play nice with other programs outside of Poser, Bryce etc.?
So far I did test some imports and exports. A shrub I made in Xfrog came in just fine as an obj and also a model made in Sketchup. I tried to export the Barefoot Dancer scene into Blender. OBJ imported into Blender fine while FBX destroyed the poor girl. DAE didn't play nice either but I'm thinking it maybe because I'm a noob at DAZ. I'm interested more in FBX and DAE because I would want to export animation info. Any tips on import/export is appreciated.

I would look at the work of Casual in the Freepozitory forum. He has been doing many scripts and ways to work with Studio and Blender.

Thanks for the link Cris. Seems very useful.
I am a little confused about customizing the models. With The Girl 4, it doesn't look like I can do much with her but I have a feeling I'm missing something. In the product description it says how versatile she is but I am having trouble figuring out how to really get going. The "Shape" edit parameters seem shallow. Am I stuck with that one hairstyle that comes with her? Can anyone point me to a good tutorial to really customize the figures bodies?
I also installed some movie tutorials. How do I view them?
The Girl 4 is a very stylized figure. It sounds like you have the base, so while there are some things that came with it, many other things can be purchased. Just enter The Girl 4 in the store's search field and it will show you several products. Always check the products to see that it includes fits for The Girl 4. There are also products such as this one which then allow you to work with the large number of products and freebies for the Genesis figures.
Thanks again Cris.
I realized today the more I read that I will have to purchase some things. I think I'm gonna focus on products that gives me creative power. I'm looking at the Shapeshift products. Also there is Genesis Body Morph Resource Kit but I'm not sure if it's compatible with genesis 2 figures or if those 2 products would conflict.
There are still other ways to do things, look at products like http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2 and http://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-2 and those pages list some other addons that are meant to help you extend the use of your figures.
