Making a mouth look realistic
Hi all, I'm new to this whole 3D world and I'm having a great time working in Daz4.7. One thing that I would love some feedback on is how to make teeth and mouths look more realistic. It seems that if I have the mouth on any of my figures at all open, such as a laugh or a surprise expression, the teeth are SO white and the tongue glows like the figure swallowed a flash light. I tried working it out in Photoshop but the teeth are so blank white that trying to darken them just doesn't work. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Can you provide a screenshot?
mouth glow might happen if you are using lights without shadows (light goes right through head and lights up inside mouth); this is the default behavior of lights in DS, but you don't want to use it, you want to turn on shadows.
An easy solution is to select the material for the teeth and then tint them using the diffuse colour options. A dull grey, or even a mild yellow for the less hygienic individual can really have a big impact come render time.
Check your Shadow Bias settings, the default is quite high and can mean that the lips don't shadow the teeth as they should (it's a setting in cm). If you are using a shader with SSS you may want to make sure that the inner mouth uses a different GroupID from the face.
Thank you one and all...
In Surface tab, used a duller gray for the Diffuse. For Specular, try a blue or blue gray. Experiment with the percentages.

Take a look at this Derek. That is with the Diffuse and Specular changed to blues and grays, even a hint of green. To avoid the Pepsodent smiles.
Edit: I blew it up, here's a closeup of the face. What is in the shadows is of course darker, but you can see from our left side, the teeth are a shade of white which are in the light. In daylight, this would look really natural.
