Yes of course it is. Have you followed the steps indicated in the pdf tutorial that you can load from the interface? It's the full procedure on page 15, I have tested it on male anatomical parts, it remember it worked when I did it (use the steps of the pdf.)

If you simply applied it at a "shader preset" on genitals, there are some missing steps. Here three images to find the pdf, find the section in the pdf, and what the beginning of the section looks like.

Whenever you already did it the way the pdf explains, and you are still silver, well first I'll try to understand why, but the solution is simple what you have to do is to load the initial specular maps of your material in Glossy Color and Top Coat Color, this will solve your problem.

  • Hi Oggimus, I just redid the full procedure for anatomical parts in order to check it again, no issue, it works.

Here is the procedure for anatomical parts on Nevio texture set (M6)

    - Load M6 and M6's Genitals

    - Apply M6 Nevio Genital Hip to M6 and M6 Nevio Genital to Genitals

    - Select M6 and double click or drag and drop "WT Apply Wet Tanned Genesis 2"

    - Adjust on M6 Tan of Skin and Gloss effect using files of folders 1, 2 and 3, so that you reach the tan and wetness levels you want on M6. (In general people prefer reduce tan and reduce wetness).

    - Double click the "WT Open Help File How To Adjust Effects To Your Figure" file. A pdf file should open. Otherwise the pdf file is located in the folder you installed the product, in : '/ReadMe's/22549_wet-and-tan-iray-skins-user-guide.pdf'

Then follow the exact procedure described page 15, part 7 "VII. What if I want to apply the material to anatomy parts?"

Step 2 of this procedure, consisting in applying FIRST on the genital parts surfaces "!Iray Uber Base" is fundamental, it is the steps which allows to "plug" the specular color into Glossy Color and Top Coat Color. Without Step 2, your final result would be pure silver. Iray uber base is the shader file provided by DAZ in order to convert your surface for Iray, but actually, it is more clever than a simple shader.

Then go on with step 3 and 4.

Now if you are "silver" it means that either you forgot step 2, or step 2 does not work as expected.

I tested this on "M6" to validate the behavior if you start from a AoA Subsurface base, I also tested this on "Logan" to validate the behavior if you start from a omUberSurface base, and on the DAZ "Iray optimised material for G2M" as a basic skin, and all of them work, provided you are doing step 1 to 4 in the right order. I have not tested from a "DS default material" as the base. Let me know if you still have issue, I have made screen captures of the pdf file for this part, this way you gain time.

    Re-Hello everybody.

I made a little video this morning concerning a way to set up scene more efficiently, and in a less "browsing" way, using the "create custom" action. I used the example of Wet and Tanned Skins to show how to set up the main shortcut, which will prevent you to browse to the product each time you want to change tan, or wetness, or whatever else.

My own work DS has tons and tons of custom scripts this way, and I must admit it is much more pleasant to work this way!

It's made in 3 parts: create custom actions, then example to use them to set up / adjust a tan and wet preset on a figure - M6 - , finally how to organise the custom scritps.

You are really welcome. My goal is to have "Happy Users". So I'm online to check questions as soon as I can, especially on products like this one which are a bit more complex than usually.

Sorry I was at a meeting. Yes the figure is Lee6. Normally I keep all my promo images duf files, I'm gonna have a look if I can find the preset for you. I have a look right now and I let you know.

  • I found it!!! Well I don't remember exactly which tan preset I used or wetness increase and deacres I did, I create tons of files when I make my images, and my brain is not able to memorise all. BUT :  If you have Lee 6 I can post you the scene file directly! Do you have Lee 6? (don't worry if you don't : we will find another solution)!

  • I wanted to say thank you for providing excellent documentation and including support for all the core figures.  This is probably the most well thought out product I've seen at Daz.

I bought the bundle,I  cannot wait for the Genesis 3 version, I got curious I tried autofit ting the drips and drops to Genesis 3 but didn't render them, And the tan script applies for me to g3f but it doesn't apply to the arms and crashes ds when trying to render, but my trial  I did on Genesis 2 female looks amazing

  • "At the Spa". I am really liking these shaders,

If you can, I'd also like to see this file. I do have Lee 6, so that's not an issue.

I've also been trying this on Scott 6, which has been a challenge, due to the maps he does and doesn't have, and what I've swapped in previously to make up for that.

Wow.. Thanks... When my products are more complex than usually, I prefer including the pdf in them. That's a really nice feedback, thank you!

Thanks.. No it should not work on G3. For Genesis 3 version, I wanted to have more G3 figures, in order to have more base settings to test to try and find parameters for "every figure" and gloss maps injectors for "as many" UV sets as possible. I wanted to wait also for G3M to try to create a common preset for both (male and female), but this is very long to wait... It is not begun yet, for now, I'm creating Iray converters for Genesis and Generation 4... Far, far away from G3..

AND I AM REALLY LIKING THIS RENDER! This is the first one I see made by someone who "is not a tester"... And I'm really happy of what I see.. You know when I launch something like that I'm always full of doubts, will the people browse in the folders to adjust the settings to their scene, will they be ok, and able to change wetness the way they want, will they be ..... etc, etc... Well will they be HAPPY with what they have... And it's only when I begin to see the first renders and hear the first feedback that I feel better... or not... this time I feel better!

I have not tested on scott 6 but what I would say is that when you feel you struggle with gloss maps, then opt for the "FLATTEN GLOSS PATCH" after a while.... After a while, only having a look at the gloss map, you will "feel" if you have to keep or remove (patch) them.

vwrangler, I MP you my mail, so that you can mail me, so that I can send you the duf file of the promo image with Lee. You should have everything to open it, since this image is the most simple scene you will probably ever see (well except an empty scene): DS default envirnoment light (the one you have when you start a fresh session), 1 Lee 6, 1 camera (locked camera, I hate losing my camera position)... that's all.. Anybody wanting this scene can also send me a MP here.

Returning to the thorny issue of tan-lines.

Would there be a simple way in a script of using the figure's clothing as a mask?

So just the exposed skin would receive the tan, as in real life?

That's what I wound up doing. (Although Wet Skins did help me identify a mistake I'd made in texture placement, so that was good.) He just wouldn't work at all with the maps I'd used for him until I did the Flatten Gloss Patch.

  • V3Digitimes,

Thanks again for the great support but I am still not getting good results even after following all steps in the PDF.

By the way the issue is primarily with the female genitalia, it seems like there is far less compatibility there. I would have posted this yesterday but I got it to work once using OOT's Milena skin so I thought I had it worked out. I was working on a big project most of the day so when I finished on it and decided to experiment a little more with Wet or Tan skins I found that it is very inconsistent.

So far I can confirm that I cannot get it to work on the Macro skins set by Parris and the newer Harmoney: http://www.daz3d.com/harmoney-for-ninive-6

Even the patch's do not work for me. Please help.

Can you be more precise on what is not working? Is it the global skin or the genitals? What is the exact phenomenon you observe and which should not be the way it is? I can help you but I need more details.

The Wet and Tan script works on the body as shown in your promo shots and the tutorial but the genitalia always show in silver with Macro Skins and the Harmoney skin texture.

Step 1 I load the figure I wish to render then I add the genitalia (stock DAZ genitals, nothing third party)

Step 2 I load the skin texture I want to use (I started with Macro skins) on both the body and the genitalia

Step 3 I load the Iray Uber Shader on both

Step 4 I go the Wet and Tan skins and load the script and run a test render

    Result =

Silver genitalia, body wet and tan. So then I tried using the patch script and another test render, same result.

Deleted the Genitalia and checked the pdf to see what I did wrong, I followd the instructions again with a newly loaded genital model and went to the surface tab to load West and Tan on just the skin and same result. DELETED EVERYTHING, and started over with newly loaded models and carefully re-read everything, no change in my test renders. So I tried the Harmoney skin as I like it too and started all over again from Step 1 and re-tried IT several times. I could not get it to work.

I was frustrated and stopped after that as the first two skins I tried to use did not work. HOWEVER I must reitterate that I DID get it to work on the Milena skin and have been using it there, so I am not sure what is going on.

Ok, I have to wait for my children to sleep before I can test it "all", it will be in two hours. But so far here is what I can tell you is that when any surface look like silver, it is because the glossy layered weight and the top coat weight are too high for the grey level of the gloss maps.  I'm gonna test right now for the skin only,  and once the skin issue is solved,  I,ll have a look at the anatomical parts.

    Hi Optimus,

One thing must maybe be precised, it is that Wet and Tan script works for only the skins, eyes, nails, lips, inner mouth, well only on all the base figure parts. But will have NO EFFECT on other added anatomical parts. This is why I included a part in the pdf dedicated to "how to apply on anatomical parts" (whatever they are). So if you have an issue with Genitialia, first you won't solve it by applying any of the file included in the package, then you will solve it by using the exact procedure described in the part of the pdf dedicated to transfer to "anatomy". There might be exceptional issues, for instance when you patched the skin, that the genitalia, which might have kept gloss maps via Iray transfer appear not enough wet. But not the contrary, not too much wet or glossy or silver.

I just did the test (even on Genitalia), and managed to have it work without any issue, on both skin and Genitalia. Here are the steps I did :

    1. load Harmoney + G2F genitals - so far I don't see any material for Harmoney for genitals.

    2. Apply macro skins to Harmony (I USED 01 MacroSkin all). Macro skin is a custom hand made shader in shader mixer, but normally wet and tanned is robust enough to support this. And indeed, it is ok.

    3. Select Harmoney, and apply wet and tanned main applier on harmony. Don't bother about anatomy now.

    4. NORMALLY at this step, your skin should be wet, tanned, but not silver. Is it your case? If it is not, can you start from "01MacroSkin all" preset to see if it works better? We have the same products, we apply the same scripts, so we should have the same result at this step.

    5. Now, if you have a global skin which is tanned and not silver, follow the exact steps provided at the page 15 of the pdf, but I sum up these steps again, but all the details are illustrated in the pdf page 15 to... 17 or more, these are only 4 simple steps. It is important to do all those steps in this order, and only those steps :

5.a select harmony Hip surface using the surface selection tool (Harmoney hips not the genitalia hips), and save it as a shader preset, name it "shader to apply". Preferentially save it in a mapped content folder to apply it from the user interface, it is more comfortable.

5.b select genitalia surfaces. !Apply Iray uber base on them. While they are stll selected, CTRL+Click the shader "shader to apply" you just created. A window will pop up and you will select "images : ignore". This will allow you to keep the maps of the genitalia.

Let me know if it renders silver. If not, there is just one step after that to finish.

In case you are really in a hurry, PM me, I'll send you my email adress, so you can send me a mail and so that I can send you the scene with "working" genitalia...

In any case you have something silver appearing at any of this step, just let me know which one.

Hello! I got this product today and will play ith it soon. It looks very promising. Will there maybe be an update for the genesis 2 male Scott character in the future too?

For now I just produced silver skin but I did not get deep into it yet. The patch thing did not work but that might also have been me as I was sort of in a hurry today. I am sure I gt it o work with a bit of time and concentration. :-)

  • Scott was created after the product was finished, this is why there is nothing. I can add a preset for him in a product update this would be logical since it would be a pitty he was not in the collection ;)

One important thing I may say here is that for now, I have never seen the "flatten gloss patch" not working, it may be a little bit too "silver" if you use a very clear or strong light/environment, in which case you have to go in gloss management and apply file to reduce top coat and global gloss.

One thing very annoying with scott, they have made no bump maps, so it is really important that I add a preset. I've tested, it can look nice. If you want this preset right now, you know the magical recipe, PM me to send me your mail so I can send the preset or the scene file to you.

No problem, I'm going to bed right now, anyway with the storm outside I have switched off my computer.. and unplugged it! I'll send you tomorrow morning French time,  or as soon as I have your a dress later on.

  • Thank you for your time in this, I have spent more time with it and I am still having some problems but having some success and improvement too, enough to relieve my concerns. So I just need to play with it more and more to learn the nuances of it. I will post later if I have any more issues.

"At the Spa". I am really liking these shaders,

This really looks great! I always like to see what customers can do with a product in the store. I think I'd better run to the store and get this ASAP.
