Huh. Would not have expected Kala to be one of the repeats this generation. I wonder if that means that Sanjay 9 will come along sometime soon?
Interesting bundle. Still not a fan of separate makeups, but I guess that's just the way it is now.

This version of Kala seems to be a bit older-presenting than Kala 8.

Ha, now that's freaky, just 30 minutes ago I was hoping for the new core figure to be Kala-esque...
The bundle's great, probably the first one for G9 where I like pretty much everything. The character... eh. Looks nice in some promos and just awful in others (good to see the ones showcasing expressions keeping the cringefest tradition started with the last few DOs). Hopping on the fence and waiting for now.
I think she looks great, but not as attractive as Kala 8 (in my opinion, the most attractive G8 core figure). The henna tattoos look more 3-dimensional than I would expect.
Not nearly as pretty as Kala 8. I may pass on this one.
I have her. There was a helpful 50% Spring voucher, so I just got the figure for $12.something. The B.E.T.T.Y jewellery and Prisha also looked very nice.
She looks a little plasticy in the full body promos, and skin a bit lighter than what I was hoping for, but I'll try her out and post some renders later.
She's a little bit bland to me. I like Kala 8 more
ETA: To me she looks like Michael 9 and Xiu Lin 9 blended together! It creeps me out a little bit
I went for the whole bundle. Everything looks beautiful in it. The Spring banner plus some tokens helped. I miss bigger brows- Lawrence brows might do - and a bit darker skin tone as well. We'll see.
[EDIT] The skin is darker than it looks in the promos.
Poor Kala 9. I'm glad Mada and fefecoolyellow are back! The iconic Executive Suit looks great, but I wish it had points for the shoulders.
I picked her up - but she's not a patch on Kala 8 who was hands down the best Gen 8 model .. Not interested in half of the bundle so picked up a couple of the items as singles instead.
I quite like her! Can anybody tell me whether the henna tattoos that are in the figure's own promos are included with Kala? Thanks!
tsroemi, I haven't downloaded the bundle yet, but they should be included because they are shown in several variations. However, there is also a separate add-on.
The Kala 9 bundle was an instant buy, but I forgot the add-ons I wanted for 'Indian Bride' and 'Indian Style'...!
Still, with the spring discount and 3 tokens, the bundle was cheap, and with the 4 new tokens, I almost reached the original discount price for the add-ons.
Her eyes are not particularly beautiful. Many Indian women have extremely beautiful, large eyes. I will try to mix in some Angela 9.
I just bought the base figure and they come with.

I do like the materials, although there is an issue with the henna where occasionally body parts go glossy as shown on the hand in the first pic. This doesn't always happen, and I haven't worked out what sequence causes it. Could be user error.
It didn't matter what eyebrows I added, they seemed to load too below the brow ridge.
Otherwise face materials seem realistic under HDRI. I struggled to get a non-goofy facial expression.

She reminds me of how a lot of G8 core characters used to look for a bit there, especially Angharad and Khemsit.

I would love to get her, but it just seems that DAZ is over pricing their core Genesis 9 figures. I don't know if anyone feels the same way, but the price jump is ridiculous with a cost of $44 for a base figure when the norm is $12 to$18? Thankfully, the artist models are still around this cost. I am not sure if there has been such increases at Renderocity, but if Daz doesn't lower the prices down tio a reasonable level soon, they are going to lose a good customer.
I didn't use the banner offer on the bundle, but I had 6 tokens which lowered the cost of the bundle and five of the add-ons to a total of $63.67. The bundle was $42.25 for ten items, so Kala 9 HD was actually $4.22. I had tried three carts before deciding to go this way. I love the clothing, both characters, and the hair.
I had already used my DAZ+ coupon this month so that was out of play. I replaced the 6 tokens I had used with the purchase and still have the banner to use on something else, or not.
Instant buy with extra 50% promo, just tried her a little and I'm very happy with the model. At first sight, she looks very attractive and even more realistic than Kala 8 (I own also Kala 8 with HD add-on). I think DAZ is producing great G9 core characters, I missed just a few of them to date...In my opinion they are doing better now than in the G8 era.
The price is fairly long standing. In 2006 I paid RRP of $34.97 for the V4 starter bundle, which content wise wasn't a great deal different from a current character as the bundle effectively had clothing & morphs thrown in for free because the texture & base character equalled the bundle price. Given the inflation since then, that's an equivalent price to $64.70. Looked at in that light, it doesn't seem so bad. BUT, I admit $44.95 hurts.
The question is, do you feel you get good VFM? And that's the one that is harder to answer.
I am beginning to think that there are now a fair few very good third party content generators who are so good that there is little or no quality difference between core and third party characters to justify the premium in much earlier generations. That's where the price differential is looking harder to maintain. Kayleyss modelled the Freya8 core character, and there is no quality difference to Michelle 8, Tara 2 or Aurore 8, who are not core characters, but are also by Kayleyss. [OK, I actually thought I got a bargain with the latter 3, but that's by-the-by.]
The basic price of G9 characters seems to be a bit greater than with G8, so maybe the third party prices are being uplifted to reflect their better quality. I really don't know yet, insufficient evidence (mostly because I've not been looking much!).

This is E3D Prisha (75%) MSO Violet head (35%) with Kala 9 Mats and HD Normals at 100%. HD Normals for Kala 9 are quite strong to play with.

Kala does look very professional in her business suit.
G9 Core Figure list prices are more, but my actual price has been below $25 for new ones. I paid less than $10 for Victoria 9, less than $5 for Julia 9, & less than $14 for Genghis Khan 9, Lawrence 9, & Thimor 9. I got Minerva's, Nikolai's, & Nathan's Mega Bundles for less than $25 each. Of course, there were tokens, coupons, & banners involved in those deals, but my experience is that G9 Core Figures are way cheaper in practice.
But I routinely paid more than $40 for G8/8.1 Core Figures plus their HD Add-Ons. Still, I'm not using G9 much yet.
As far as the jump in price of base figures, the HD morphs were sold separately in previous generations. This caused quite a large price if you wanted to purchase both. Now the HD morphs are included with the base figure, so I would expect them to be more than the non-HD morph alone.
Yeah, the coupon sold me on the bundle... that and 4 tokens made the bundle $31... and there is a lot of cool stuff in the bundle so, snagged!
This is my first test of Kala 9 HD on my computer with a 1080Ti. My biggest issue was 5 minute saves! She is straight out of the box, with Chevybabe25's new hair, dForce Feisty Feather Bun Hair For Genesis 9 and the Everyday outfit with one of the textures for the shirt and sandals.
The combination of normals with HD is way too strong. I'd either turn down the HD morph by 50%...or leave it at 100% and turn the normals down. Joan 9 had the same problem. The best look for her (Joan 9) was to keep the normals and lower the HD morph to 50%.
That being said...I like Kala 8...but Kala 8 is not without her own issues. Her hand texture out of the box is oofta (the normals are the problem).
I've spent too much today as it is with 70% off build-your-own flash sale so I won't be picking up Kala 9...at least not for a while. Don't really have a use for anything in the bundle, so really only the core character is what I'd get.
I really like those pants! Now I'm happy I also bought the textures for this one. Cheers!
