Be prepared to pay [for Genesis 9 Capability In FaceGen] , $130.00 bucks worth for the "new" version , which basically just adds automatic dot placement and Gen[esis] 9 compatibility. I downloaded and took  a look at the demo even loaded the created morphs into Daz , guess what ? The morphing system has not improved no more points for images to create more accurate morphs , same same. I have to say , if I am gonna shell out $130.00 bucks in this economy there better be a vast improvement and sadly ladies and gents this ain't it . That said come on Face Transfer for Gen 9 !!!

I'm happy just using it for up to G8 but yeahbe nice still for g9. When G8.1 came out I managed to use one of my G8 skins on a G8.1 model but then something happened think when G8.1 got updated couldn't do it broken seams but still like doing G2/3/8s side note also combine anatomy from Zev0s Skinbuilder which didn't work for 8.1 fems either. I really like Facegen so if they release for G9 cheaper/discount and Zev0 does a skinbuilder for G9 I'd be happier

    I'm not even considering it...

  • Has FaceGen disappeared from the store?

If one has recently purchased FaceGen [before the upgrade's release], see the note on their website - can get a free upgrade.

My purchase was a long time ago, so no, not shelling out full price for G9 but am happy to see it being supported.

I've tried this as per an email reveived from SI. Sent them my Daz receipt and got a free upgrade to FaceGen 4. Nice!

I was originally hesitant with FaceGen because I'd used it a long time in the past, but I decided to give it a go when Daz had it on a recent discount. Added in 8 tokens and got it for a very nice price. Wasn't sure if SI would honour their upgrade offer, so was a happy camper when they did.

I've tried comparisons of 8.1 and 9 using the same source image/face generation. Straight to G9 vs using an 8.1 clone to G9 works better and, to me, looks better too. It fixes some of the issues that clones inherently have, particularly around the eyes. The eyes on the FaceGen G9 imports can clip ever so slightly at extreme (unnatural) rotations, but it's night and day versus using clones (and clone issues were nothing to do with FaceGen anyway - it's just how they work on any morph transfer). Anyway, happy to have excluded a few steps of FaceGen to G9 and I appear to be getting better likenesses than I was previously. If you've a qualifying discount but from a Daz Store purchase, looks like SI will be happy to transfer that over too. Realise I'm in the fortunate position of having bought FaceGen only a few weeks ago, but can't complain at that!

    $224.00 AUD for me

I only own the Facegen Artist version for Genesis 1 and 2 bought from them before they sold at DAZ

I am largely OK with that as making lookalikes of real people has never gone down well with people I know

...and doing Celebrities fraught with issues regarding the photographer's copyrights as well as legal issues misrepresenting them

it's actually worse than using AI art generators as you are outright stealing a specific photograph

this is different to using references to sculpt a celebrity lookalike who is unnamed

I've got all three versions of Facegen that was sold here think got discount on 2 and 3 for buying previous versions got other progs too but FG is my fav. If it comes on discount grab Lovechild that allows you to combine two faces to create a new one so you can have a unique human face of someone that doesn't exist and use those in Facegen. Few sites do this offering faces of people that don't exist like generated faces - got a lot from there when they were free but with using Lovechild and Facegen you can do this yourself

Artbreeder portrait will do that, and it's still out there for free. Also of interest on their website: "All images are public domain (CC0) and may be used for commercial purposes."

I have hundreds of photorealistic images generated from crossing previous images with each other. A lot of my characters are related to each other, so creating characters with some resemblance to each other was a critical feature I needed to have.

Just FYI, the automatic face dots are not exclusive to the latest version. I have the auto dots in my version, which I think is 3.12. However, while the auto dots are convenient, they don't always fall in the right place. Luckily you can still move the dots manually.

I honestly wouldn't expect the tech to improve all that much without a total overhaul. The base for FG is pretty old. We are generating a 3d model from only 1-3 pics, and most probably only have 1 front facing shot. Without more photos from different angles it just isn't going to get better unless they add some kind of AI component.

They have added some improvements over time. The biggest one in 3.12 is that faces blend much better into the rest of the texture. The color of body textures better match the face color. I was quite surprised how much better it was over previous versions. But you are right, this is basically the same app that has existed for quite a long time. I think it is past time for a whole new software that includes AI. There already are AI generators that can create full 3d objects with just a couple pics.

Photogrammetry is also taking off. There are multiple apps that use mobile cameras to create 3d objects. You just take the camera and go around your subject. This creates a file like OBJ which can be used with other applications to eventually make a Genesis morph. Obviously this requires having your subject available for the scan, so probably not ideal for your favorite celebrities.
