Can you use G8.1 skin on G8

If the skin shaders are got G8.1F, will they work out of the box for G8F or will some fine tuning be required?

You can simply load your character's shape onto the Genesis 8.1 Female Base rather than the Genesis 8 Base. Genesis 8.1 Base supports both G8 UVs and G8.1 UVs. Genesis 8 Presets will also work on Genesis 8.1 without a problem. But Genesis 8.1 Presets will not work on Genesis 8 (since there's a discrepancy on surface names).
