I am a big fan of the old Universal monster movies like Clive Owens's Frankenstein.  Oh, and I adore the classic Hammer horror flicks like Christopher Lee's Dracula.  And I can't resist all of the B-Movies made in their honor that serve as fodder for late night hosts like Svengoolie and Elvira.  Examples include Dracula's Daughter (1936) by Universal, Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde (1971) by Hammer, and Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter (1966) .  That last one was shot at the same time as Billy the Kidd vs Dracula (1966) for low budget producer Carroll Case. The twin bill by Carroll Case was completed in eight days splitting time at a ranch and at Paramount Studios.  Case's day job was a TV producer.

Bottom line - yay for Ms. Van Helsing!

Now on the specifics of the character and the bundle, (a) there does seem to be quite an overlap with existing characters, and (b) I blew my 3D budget on the 'build your own old content bundles' during the Daz+ summer sale.  I am looking under the sofa cushions and behind my dresser to see if I can scrape together enough change for another purchase.

  • One thing I will say about this bundle is that it offers two outfits with flat boots, and associated pose sets to go with that. While I have no need for vampire hunters, I do appreciate, and have use for, sensible boots. It's a little thing that increases my interest in the bundle by a couple of notches.

    ^^ *THIS* ^^

I'll be buying the clothes and pose set at the minimum. A different top on the Soul Keep outfit and the clothes work for today. Might wait until tomorrow to see if an orange banner shows up for the Pro Bundle.

Oh hell, yes. Flat shoes for the win!

What We Do in the Shadows also had one of the characters revealed to be a descendant of Van Helsing. I think at this point "Van Helsing" is becoming a stock thing for any character who is a vampire hunter.

That's a fun show. And why not female anything? Starbuck was male in the original Battlestar Galactica.

No real reason, just some of us like looking at men.

No issues with seeing a female Van Helsing...could very well be a decendent anyways. Also love seeing outfits without spike heels. However...the actual character doesn't really do much for me because she is so similar to other G9's already out. And I'm not really into vampire stuff so no point in me getting the bundle as there's really nothing I'd use in it.

Would like to see more G9 males.

As two of the outfits in the bundle I checked have no masculine fits at all, I won't be getting it, and I've got no interest in the character. That April hair on the other hand... already in the cart.

"The outfit reflects his ruthless nature and tireless fight against the forces of evil in a world filled with supernatural dangers. The main outfit consists of a shirt, vest, pants, and  boots.  The added accessories are a bag, hat nd holster.

Get this outfit for your favorite Hunter/Huntress scenes Van Helsing style."

Quoting the write up on the Van Helsing outfit above. I thought this indicated that it could be used on Female and Male G9?

Anything for G9 is supposed to be able to be used with G9's male and female (or mixing in between) shapes. That's the alleged point of the figure. How good it looks is entirely subjective and to the individual tastes of the artist. My assumption when I don't see a promo image of both genders is that the artist who made it intended it for the gender depicted, but that doesn't limit what one can do with it.

If you look at the file list here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/90732/file_list you can see there are no masculine morphs in any of the items in the outfit and it very specifically says "Blood Hunter Outfit for Genesis 9 Female" in all its file paths.

(I managed to once buy an outfit that didn't have any masculine morphs listed and it turned out to have breasts modelled into the outfit and autofollow is useless if it's not modelled on the neutral base, so I learned to check before wasting money or dealing with support.)

Sorry for the "not a render" (render-worthy computer is busy) but the oufit seems perfectly usable on male characters. Here it is on Nahuel G9.

Van Helsing's body seems better than some of the other G9 characters, but where is the big difference of the face e.g. to Joan 9? Also the outfits have been seen like this or similar umpteen times before. Interesting for me are the hair by AprilYSH and the castle.

Thank you Timbales and Pax Asteriae for the G9 education. I will keep it in mind for any future outfits I want to use both offered figures.

Thank you franky85 for those pictures, they showed me what I needed to see,  I appreciate it.

Yep. Same. Bit annoyed with the nonsense yesterday, but just under $30 for the bundle, all textures, and the extra outfit is an acceptable apology. The "Top Monsters" section offers some nice deals, too - HH Demon, MS Succubus Pack, etc.

It is rather crappy that the price is so much better today - literally the day after release. Seems like a good way to irritate people.

How does one pose the play suit? It doesn't seem to simulate and the tassles dissapear under the skin when I render it. I've tried manually moving them but the viewpoint does not reflect what's rendered?

How are you guys achieving that price? I can get it down to something like 50 bucks with the additional releases.

Colour me irritated... The extra 10% off for owning the bundle makes up a little - but it is pretty lame! Also, would not be surprised to find the coupon rolls out to everyone else after!

  • I bought the standalone figure, but I think this is going to be last one G9 feminine core character with athletic body shape I'm going to buy for a while. From Freja 9, through Joan, Olympia and now, G9 went through very much all possible permutations for athletic body type, more variations can be obtained by mixing in other characters. I think it's enough. There should be more variety for G9 feminine figures, for an example very skinny core figures with more pronounced skeletal structure, or figures that are overweight, etc, etc.

I like her, nice details and one of the best originals body morph yet, imo. She reminds me of Jacqueline 8.1. Nice mix with Joan 9, an oportunity to use her morph for something else. The make up pack has more options than ever and I really like it is subtle, not as crazy as some of the make up packs that came with last characters. As I didn't have any banner/token bought the character and make up only.

like those renders. What hair is that?

Dont think I have seen it in the store.

That same coupon appeared the day after the Monster Mashup for Genesis 9 Pro/Starter bundle which I took advantage of.  Totally forgot.  As the saying goes, "...Fool me twice, shame on me".

I'm still undecided whether I want to get the pro bundle. With today's banner for extra 50% off (72 hours, usable three times, and no new release exclusion, so don't miss it), I can get the bundle down to $44 which is nice. I like the character and the hair, but out of the three outfits, I like one, the other one is ok (if I kitbash it with something else), and the playsuit is a complete turndown, and weapons are meh too. So it's half-half on stuff I want and really don't.

If anyone got it and is rendering, share the pictures and help me make up my mind? ;)

I do think some of the base character promos look quite good. However, for some reason none are selling the character to me. I vaguely felt the body shots looked like 'a well muscled young man with a plant-on chest to make a him into a her'. I do realize that first reaction is not entirely fair, but first reactions do matter. She also looks related to V9 in a similar way to the way that all Mousso characters look related, but does have all and more of the muscle tone V9 lacked & needed. Regards, Richard.

I go the pro bundle with the banner, because I wanted the alt shapes. Probably a smart move on Daz's part to make them Pro bundle exclusive, but only they can see the sales figures.

    Here's the family together:

Some cactus flowers my machine noped out at about 17% rendered:

(Guy wears the boots and leather pants from the bundle. As to the pants in the other outfit... who puts blue denim in a vampire adjacent bundle? (My inner teenage goth demands to know!))

Trying the makeup on the alt shapes (why is the make-up for the core characters still so buggy to apply?):

The older version is only obvious in the face to me. There don't seem to be extra mats for older Van Helsing, only the younger.

I like the scuplt. The textures seem a bit chalky out of the box, not too much variation on the body.

    Wishlist:

I really, really want skinny with slightly visable ribs if I'm going to buy more ladies. (And guys, come to think about it!) HH Belle I think is the only Gen9 example I've seen so far. (Big lady morphs I can get elsewhere relatively easilly, for whatever reason.)
