The last viewport you clicked on will be the one that renders. It will also get a thin border as an indicator.

  • The Viewport is the main one, it can show up to four actual views tiled in various ways. It is the view used for Full Screen mode.

The Aux Viewport was added later, to support the 3Delight IPR for peviewing - though it isn't limited to that. It can't be split, it's just the one view.

As prixat says, the active viewport is the one used for rendering.

  • Is there any way to switch the active viewport (between main and aux) with a keyboard shortcut?

Alt + F2 for Viewport, Alt + F3 for Aux. Viewport, but Viewport should be always there... You may define shortcuts in F3.

  • Thanks crosswind but Alt + F2 and Alt + F3 don't change the focus between the two viewports for me.  They don't seem to do anything.

I know how to create shortcuts in the F3 menu. I don't see Alt + F2 and Alt + F3 set as keyboard shortcuts in the F3 menu.  That may be my problem.

Do you know what the action to change viewport focus is called in the F3 menu, so I can manually set it up?

    Thanks...

Ah...ah..., I'm very sorry, those are not default but the ones I ever created long time ago, my bad memory !! crying

Please just press F3 in DS, you assign shortcuts to them as below. You need to dock Aux. Viewport to a pane group once, then the shortcuts will work. But Viewport is not dock in a group, it'll be minimized once you press shortcut, so it's not really needed....

Hmmm...  So I set up these shortcuts on my system.  If I understand correctly you're basicly forcing the focus to change to the other viewer by closing and re-opening one of the viewer tabs.  That's not exactly what I was hoping for but it is certainly better than nothing.  I'll have to see how that works in practice next time I'm working in DAZ Studio.

    Thanks!

No problem ~ not sure what you really want, but if you want to switch them from one another, you dock them in the same pane groups, i.e. drag Aux. to the side of Viewport pane group, then shortcuts will switch in b/t them.
