Daz Social Media Survey

barbultbarbult Posts: 24,253

Daz sent out an email about a social media survey. They wanted me to rank my usage of 9 social media platforms from 1 to 9. I found it interesting that they don't even include their own forum as one of the platforms.

I couldn't complete it because it wants us to rank a list of sites and the only one I use is YT.

I just threw some numbers in.

I added in my comments on the last question that I only use YouTube and DeviantArt of the sites mentioned, but I gave FaceBook a 9 since I actively block it.

  • Odd Discord wasn't there, either.

I still find it odd that Reddit is considered Social Media rather than a forum.

A few years back, I completed a Daz survey that promised a $5.00 coupon, which I never received.  Time went by, and I guess I forgot all about it, and never pursued it further.  This time they promise a $10.00 coupon.  So I went ahead and did the survey, but of course I'm wondering if I will ever receive it without having to push some extra buttons.

The code was in the survey.

  • More precisely, right before you begin the survey. Meaning that if you click the link to it, it will likely flash up for you again.

Used mine to get an outfit texture that had been obscurely sitting in my wishlist since the Crow pro bundle came out.

Why not?  There doesn't seem to be consensus about that when I do an internet search. Reddit was included. Isn't that a forum?

Thanks so much for your help, barbult.  Appreciated.  I went back to the survey and found the recent coupon.  blush

I overlooked when the date the coupon code for filling out the survey would be activated, I didn't see it. Was a date given?

No, it won't and I didn't write it down expecting a coupon :(   Oh well

Bummer, I don't use social media except for tutorials on YouTube so I can't complete the survey.

While having to rank sites one doesn't use is annoying, there are a couple of questions with an Other option so I just typed that I don't use 'em (other than YT, but not as a preferred method of geting information).

I can't do this survey either. I have a Facebook account, but I haven't been in it in months. I only use YouTube as well, so I can't finish the survey either. Oh well.

  • I don't use social media either, but I did mention the Daz forum on one of the free-form "Other" options, so I feel like I provided some value to them for my effort.

Yeah, I only use 2 (and only 1 for rendered art), but after fighting that joke of a survey, I just closed the whole thing. It's such an odd survey and I'm not going to be bothered by such silly questions...

I tried it again, but it won't let me complete it unless I answer the rating of social media sites. Most of them are sites I've never looked at. Even though it says I completed 10 of 10 questions, it keeps popping me back to that ranking social media sites as an incomplete section and it won't let me complete the survey. Not everyone goes to every social media site on the internet. I guess, even with all the money I spend on this site, I'm not able to get that coupon for doing the survey. Oh well.

Thanks for mentioning the survey! Checked my emails and found it there, completed it with no problems. Coupon also worked just fine for me. Nice idea!

To me, the difference is centralization. Forums are centralized: Daz runs and moderates the forums according to its own agenda (meaning that in as neutral a sense as possible, not accusing Daz of anything), meaning that they provide a certain number of subfora and will moderate posts that are off-topic, irrelevant, inflammatory, etc. Social media is decentralized: you post things mainly on your own page, or into the ether like with Twitter, and as long as you're not violating the law or fairly narrow content guidelines (or criticizing Elon Musk), you're unlikely to get moderated in any way. If you post the same thing every hour for a week on Twitter, and you probably won't get much engagement on it, but nothing is going to happen to you; do the same on the Daz forums, and all but the first - and possibly even the first - will get deleted. The centralization of a forum also means that, by default, everybody sees everything, whereas on social media you only see things that you choose to see or that are algorithmically selected for you to see. On a forum, you choose threads to read; on social media, you scroll through a feed.

As for Reddit, that's kind of a weird grey area, where it could reasonably be argued that it's a forum, social media, both, or its own distinct category.

I filled out the survey and didn't get a coupon code, going back to it only tells me I already filled it out but that's it.

Thank you . That's a very insightful discussion of the differences.
