Hah! I've done that too. I can't tell you the number of times I've gone to move something, had the triangle, then suddenly I'm rotating when I didn't want to!
Yes this is correct, deleting the lights work OK. As soon as I delete the Light Focus Null, Daz will crash instantly.
I tried adding my own Null and deleting that, and it works OK.
Added and deleted pretty much every other light set I bought for iray and they all delete OK.
I also have reality installed.
When I get the time, I should remove the plugin and see if I still get the crash.
Yes. The lights are great. No problem there.
Tech support did contact me about my ticket. They wanted step by step instructions so they could try to recreate. I tried adding one of the light sets to a blank scene and then I tried to delete the LIGHT FOCUS from the Scene tab and DS crashed. So the steps were easy....unless it turns out to be something peculiar to a few of us.
I'm on Windows 7, Studio 4.9.0.63. No problems with deleting lights whether I delete the focus or delet individual lights.
I hope they figure out what the issue is and that it is an easy fix. They can tell from the file info in studio which version I used so if that is the issue in the end they can tell. I'm just really thankful that there is a workable solution till there is a fix.
Well, Tech Support said they are not able to re-create the issue. They wanted me to uninstall Daz Studio and then delete the packages and then re-download and re-install. I did that, but DS will still crash if I try to delete the Light Focus.
Guess it's not that big a deal. I can still delete the lights. I'll just have an extra null object in my scene if I want to change to another set.
Gosh Kevin. Thank you so much for helping them with this. My big hope is that it is something that will stop being flitzy in a newer version. In theory if I create my own null it might solve the issue. I think I will wait a little bit and see if they sort out the issue somehow. Mostly because I need QA to not hate me and if I send them extra work in the middle of them being so snowed under with MM products and the RDNA move I would expect some serious hating to happen.
I just tried removing the Reality plugin from both the final release 4.9.1 and the beta 4.9.1.30 Daz releases.
Once the plugin is removed, the Light Focus Null deletes without crashing Daz.
Put the Reality plugin back in both the 4.9.1 and the 4.9.1.30 beta, and they both crash again when deleting the Light focus Null.
So for me it is definatly someting tied to the Reality 4.2.1 plugin that causes the Light Focus Null to crash Daz Studio.
Khory,
One of the reasons I bought your light set is to start moving over from Reality to iray.
That is the strangest and most illogical bug on earth! Fusion if you have any questions about Iray as you move over let me know. I may not know mind you but odds are good I read a thread where someone who does know ..knows.
I picked up the Scintillant lights in this weekend's catch-up sale, and I can confirm that it's an issue with Reality and the Light Focus. I have Studio 4.9.1.30 general release and Reality 4.2.1 on Windows 7 Pro, and with the plugin in place, if I delete the light focus, Studio crashes. If I move the plugin out of the Reality directory and then go back into Studio and delete the focus, no problem at all.
It's not just these lights; it's ANY point-at null target. I tried creating one with different lights, and every single one crashes Studio as long as the Reality plugin is in place. Somehow, Studio really really doesn't like Reality. (...There really is a bad Hitchhiker's Guide joke buried in that, isn't there?)
Indeed rvwrangler.. Perhaps it is an effect caused by the "Infinite Improbability Drive" because that sounds like a logical but improbable reaction by reality to a null (which has none really).
Thanks for the offer Khory.
You just keep knocking out good products!!!
Reality 4 release has had its share of being a buggy release for Reality users.
At this rate, Iray is going to put another nail in the Reality coffin.
Sadly it was just crazy hard to do support for reality.. I tried at one point. Iray on the other hand is well.. fun.
Good to see that what's causing the delete crash has been identified. I don't have Reality so I guess that's why it doesn't crash for me.
I tried out the new FWSA Xin-Qian character from the Pearl of Night Bundle and the Crescent Cove, that I got yesterday. First I used only light from the HDRI that comes with the Crescent Cove set but the results wasn't that good due to where I had placed the character and camera. She was mostly in shadow and the skin didn't look very good. So I added a set of lights from my favorite lighting product and applied the accompaning tone map settings. After moving the lights around I think I came to a rather good result. Other than moving the lights, the only other change I did was to change back Environment Mode to "Dome and Scene" to get the HDRI to show. So with that change, these lights work well with HDRI outdoor shots too, not just studio type portraits.
I went for purple again
hmmm... I have Reality in my main install and nowhere else. I THINK this is the only install that has this problem. Since Reality doesn't like Connect, why am I even keeping it? I shall remove Reality and see if that resolves the issue.
Like others, I had the crash problem. By the time I got the lights, though, everyone had already posted a work around so I didn't really bother testing things out after the first crash. I just deleted the lights and left the null. I will say that I'm still using DS 4.8 and I do have the latest Reality installed.
Lovely render Isidorn. I like how the light is falling on her I'm pleased to see that the lights can be used effectively "outside" as well as "inside". I suspect I would have lowered the environmental intensity but that seems to be one of my go to answers with dome renders. You ought to see me trying to fake night time with them for emissive renders.
I would be a big fat furry liar if I did not admit that I am so relived that this is something that I didn't miss somehow (don't have reality installed on this computer) and didn't cause myself (exactly). I think going forward though I will cook up my own "null" to avoid any issues.
I'm glad we figured it out.
The forums are great when we come together to try and help each other.
Now you don't need to be worried what it was you did, and can focus on creating more great products :)
I'm actually suprised that such an obscure cause was hit on so quickly. Tottallou catching that right off was amazing.
I told tech support that other users were having the same problem and that several users said it was a conflict with Reality. They told me to go to the DIM and uninstall it and let them know if that fixed things and then they would give me Reality support. But Reality is not listed in the DIM. I also read that you should not use the windows program uninstaller. So how did you remove it?
I went into the Daz program/application folder, and under the plugin folder removed the Reality folder.
What FusionLA said sounds logical. Plug in shouldn't be the same as removing a program. Course who would expect a plug in to cause something dumb like this anyway.
Thanks. I did find these instructions...

I hope it's OK to provide a link. If not I guess they will remove it.
And after I removed Reality, I am now able to delete that NULL object without DS crashing. Yeah!
Guess I'll just drop reality. Too bad I didn't know this before I upgraded. But luckily I only had to pay $15. Either that was the upgrade price or I got it on sale.
I've mainly been using iRay anyway.
I did try another version of my picture above but I'm thinking I probably shouldn't post it as I already put two as it is. I did discover some of the other features you provided, Khory, like that back drop. Are the materails for the backdrop? I assume they are.
Materials for the portrait space are in with the prop or in a folder called Materials. There are 8 simple materials for the prop or you could use shader presets on the surfaces for a different look.
Yes I been moving over to IRay also, that's why Khory's lights got my attention.
I think I will let Paolo know, (it's only fair) so he can fix Reality causing the crash for users still wanting to use it.
Now that the problem has been found, hopfully Khory can get back to getting praises for her product:)
I filed a bug report for this myself on Paolo's bug report system. At least that way he can track it.
It's in his Mantis at http://preta3d.com/mantisbts/view.php?id=1827 -- I think, if you have an account in his system, you can add notes to that yourself to let him know that you're also experiencing the issue.
At least we know what and why and how to avoid it. I just hope there are not another 50 people out there in the world who delete the lights, whatch the program crash, curse studio and then curse me...

Yes, we do not want them cursing you Khory! :)
I think you handled it great, really being concered that something was going wrong and not just brushing us off.
Your a sweetheart FusionLA. Thank you.
