Glare Problem

edited March 2016 in Daz Studio Discussion

After my last post, I've managed to find some better instruction and tutorials than I had at the time (couple of Dreamllight's).

I'm having a much better time with things, but still hitting a problem.  As before, please forgive if this sounds like a dumb question on my part.

I've been seeing quite a few of the photorealistic renders and loved the results.  As I work through with mine, however I have been getting a glare off of even non-reflective items.  Similar to how it woudl look if you had a bright flashlight or such close to a surface.  I've tried moving the lighting back, adjusting intensity, etc.  But, I'm not sure if I"m just not getting enough of or such.  This is my first dance with photography related terms such as f-stop, shutter speed, etc.  So it's been quite a bit of trial and error for me due to how I pick up things.  I sort of need an actual starting point for things like that to see the results for myself to tweak and work from.

I've so far managed to avoid the glare problem with using a 'stealth mode' from CalladsEseence's IRAY set for the mesh lights.  But, this still leaves an issue if I'm using spotlights.  I'm using luminance in the ranges of 20k-30k for larger scenes.  So, my numbers may be way off.  Is there a base guide for indoor/non outdoor settings that are not using the environment/HDR (not having an issue with these types of renders)

First and probably most importantly...make sure the camera headlamp is OFF.

  • Yes, they are.  First thing I turn off before hte render starts.

What type of lights are you using?  Are you also using HDRI Dome, or Sun & Sky?  I'm using spotlights now, selected as rectangular instead of point and changing them into iRay mesh lights cause idk how to duplicate making a primitive into an emissive even by just chosing plane, surface, emissive drag and drop...

There's a weird interaction between the mesh lights and the enviromental lighting, see first attachment, and then after I just turned off the environment lighting all together I get the second image.

If anyone knows why my first image has those imperfections on the face, I'm all ears.

  • No HDR on it, purely off three mesh lights for an indoor scene.

  • And I see what you're talking about Jeff.  I haven't had too many issues via the HDR, purely from indoor scenes.
