Where do you find alternate skin colors? I got into this to do fantasy pics, but so far have not bee able to find colors beyond normal ethnicity. Think World of Warcraft colors and the like.

Also, what about alternate skin textures?

Thanks,
Stefan

There are some in the store. Just need to look through them. Or you could make your own if you have any 2D skills by modifying textures you already have.

There are even fewer alternative skin types, like scales or what not, but they can be found too. While some can be found here you can diversify your results by looking elsewhere.

Also look at characters that are unique, they come with skins often enough. Even if you don't like the character shape, if you like the texture it may be worth the purchase.

Not meant to be a comprehensive list, but to show there is some non-human skin around

Sickleyield has various colorful skin textures over at Renderosity. I don´t have them because I did not need them yet, but I remember seeing a blue one, orange one and red one from her, maybe even more.

Yep, SY has at least 3 over there. And there are a few other vendors as well.

From the looks of things, it appears that you have to get other characters to get the skins. I did pick up Lillith for V4 bundle on a recent Fast Grab sale. I thought there might be some sort of tool you could get and click on a color to change the skin color. Kind of like Paint or PS, I'm guessing that's what you meant about the 2D skills. Or something standalone (not with a character) in the Textures and Skin maps store.

Yes, most of them come as characters...but, once you have the skin textures, they can be applied to any character morph that uses the same base or the same UV mapping.

So with Lilith, her skin texture can be used on any V4 character/morph or on Genesis with the V4 UV mapping. It could also be used on M4 if you switch M4 to use the V4 UV maps...or K4, etc.

You can also try using a regular human skin and applying a diffuse color to it to make it look more alien. Select Genesis, go to the Surfaces tab, select the skin surfaces, and change the diffuse color. I think some of the promo images for Beasts and Brutes were done using that method: http://www.daz3d.com/beasts-and-brutes

    Thanks all for the responses.

Scott, I tried what you said (after I found the settings) and I think that is what I was looking for, for the skin colors. Now I just have to find a color cookbook to dial in the ones I want. Also, when I tried it, it only applied to a region (the face in this case) is there a way to do the whole body, then adjust individual parts?

As far as textures go, I will have to check your suggestions.

Yes, to get it to apply to the whole body, you'll need to select all the body's skin surfaces. I think this is the list:

    1_Lip
    1_Nostril
    1_SkinFace
    2_Nipple
    2_SkinHead
    2_SkinHip
    2_SkinNeck
    2_SkinTorso

    3_SkinArm
    3_SkinFoot
    3_SkinForearm
    3_SkinHand
    3_SkinLeg

(There are additional surfaces for eyes, fingernails, etc., but you may or may not wish to put the color on those.)

You can select these as a bunch and apply the color, then select them one at a time to adjust individual parts.

This tutorial is on a different (slightly related) topic, but the screenshot shows how to find all these surface regions: http://rawart3d.deviantart.com/art/Sub-Surface-Scattering-in-DS-306744678 And it's a good tutorial, too!

Or check out Mr. Hyde...now in FastGrab for under $5... http://www.daz3d.com/fast-grab-3d-models/mr-hyde-for-genesis

He comes with red, green, blue, gray, and white skin color options, and the skins can be used on other characters, too.

LOL, I actually picked up Mr Hype during one of the holiday sales. I thought his colored skins would only fit him though. I never tried to apply them to an other characters.

I found some color charts. I think I can dial in the skin color I'm looking for with the chart and diffuse color option. When I'm adjusting the diffuse setting, which color is which? Is it R - G - B?

Thanks for the SSS tutorial link. That was something else I was looking for. I was starting to think you had to have Poser to get realistic looking skin.
