Huge File Sizes conforming to Genesis?

    Wendy,
    That's a novel approach!
My problem is that I make extensive changes to textures/shaders, attach helper objects and modify IK dependencies to my characters.
I don't know if these things can be done in your workflow.
I have to confess that I never took the time to learn NLA clips!
My first try or two failed, but I have always wanted to learn so that I could save poses.
Is there a step by step tutorial to using them?

    Thanks for joining the conversation

textures/shaders you can save as a universal group for each figure dragging top multicoloured ball into shader browser.
helper objects not sure how you would.

That's what I do too. You can also use NLA Master Pose as a way to save morph dialed information - like Carrara's method of injecting your character shapes.

Using the DS approach that Wendy uses, I would still save a Carrara file once I got all of my characters set up and animated, shaded, etc.,
It really doesn't bother me if the size is a little large. My primary OS hard drive that drives all of this stuff is 1.5 TB, and I have several other internal drives that I use to clean up my primary with. That machine is also pretty much dedicated to only Carrara, DS, Poser, Dogwaffle, Corel Paint and Video, Sony, etc., it's only for my Carrara endeavors. This beast is for everything else.

Still, the topic of this thread is incredibly valid and one heck of an eye opener. Have you ever filed a support ticket through Zen Desk? I don't recall. I don't know for sure, but I have a feeling that Carrara is still being tweaked at DAZ. Too bad they have to be so freaking secretive about it. It would be nice to know, at the very least, whether or not we can expect an update to 8.5 prior to the release of 9. Either way, I'm still an incredibly happy Carrara user! :)

Thanks all for the great information!
My concern over the filesize was more about how it limits how many figures I can load in a scene.
Hard drive space is so cheap that I don't mind too much about the bloat from a storage point of view.
    Still, 10x seems excessive.

Anyway, the worst offender was hair, which doesn't really need to be conformed, so I'll trudge along until something improves.

Below is my first render with Genesis and an environment I created mostly from scratch.

I call it "Testing the waters with Genesis"

    Beautiful job, my Lord!
Great work on your Genesis shaders and that scene just kills!
    Bravo!

Makes me want to take a dip. Unfortunately I have a couple months before the weather would allow any outdoor pool time.

Well, unless we go and visit the Gars Man. It is our turn, you know ;)

    Wow,

    Thanks for the encouraging feedback!
I can't list the amount of stuff I've learned from you folks.
I only wish I had more time to play with Carrara.

    Take care all.
(Time for me to go for a dip in the pool)
    h:P
