I fell in love with this set, as I think quite a few people did. Wanted to start a thread to see what other people have been creating with it.

#1- DS4.6 + PhotoshopCS6 + NikTools (these flowers are somewhere near the back-left corner of the set)
#2- PP2014 + Terradome + Snarlygribbly's Free SnowMachine2 + PhotoshopCS6 + Ron's Winter Brushes + NikTools
#3- Just a normal PP2014 test render w/ Terradome + Aquazone

Has anyone gotten a good render from the opposite viewpoint, as if you were looking down from the mountains toward the village on the shore?

That looks fantastic, what background did you use for reality?

I love the look of this set, but I can't justify the purchase since I would only have a few uses for it

Fabulous renders everyone. Cho, I happen to like the black and white effect. Nicely done all.

Please, please, give information about which program you are using and what lighting set up. There are those of us who need to learn.

Just messing around with the set and lights and I suddenly remembered the old Disney film "Island At The Top of the World" with the all the fabulous Peter Ellenshaw matte shots of the viking city...

Interesting. Anyone know how that description would convert to Luxus instructions? I didn't realise it was possible to convert a skydome directly into a LuxRender environment light.

O yeah, I've done it quite often on scene-specific skydomes & skyboxes. The easiest way in Luxus is to have your parameters tab active instead of the surfaces tab - click on the wee square to bring the dropdown (where you'd normally select to add Luxus Luxrender material) and you'll see the Luxus option is actually Luxus Luxrender Light.

Also, I'd strongly recommend having the "Use LuxRender GUI" setting switched to "on" in the Luxus render settings - it's essential to be able to adjust light intensities on-the-fly while rendering so that everything isn't bleached to death.

Here is a render I did of the church using a mix of lights that tinkered with.

I know about that, it's how I set up an environment light with an .hdr file applied to a D|S Distant light converted to a LuxRender Infinite light. So which light type should I use to convert a skydome or skybox? I've tried everything obvious, and none of the settings appear to have a parameter slot where I can plug in something that isn't an .hdr image.

A further progression of my previous image. The Let It Snow Shader is one of those one-trick ponies I rarely have an opportunity to use, but when I do find a use for it, it always delivers. Can't decide if the tiny added viking figure helps or detracts...

I've tried everything obvious, and none of the settings appear to have a parameter slot where I can plug in something that isn't an .hdr image.Sorry, I don't usually use Luxus and assumed all options were covered with the paramater light option.

I had a quick look, and you set up as a light from the surfaces tab option instead of the "normal" light options in the parameters tab. So the steps would be to select skydome/skybox & with surfaces tab active:
    * Select the "Luxus - LuxRender Material" options from the dropdown menu (this can probably be narrowed down a bit but I didn't spend time exploring it).
    * Leave "Material Type" at the default "All With Switcher".
    * Check the "Light Parameters" and "Copy Studio Parameters" boxes, and click to accept.
    * In the Luxrender "Light" settings, make sure Luxrender Light is enabled (set to "on") and import the skydome texture into the "light color" setting.

That's it really... it won't be near as good as a proper HDR image, but it'll give you a good ambient light source that contextually matches the visual environment, and you'll almost certainly need to add additional Luxus light(s)s to the scene so that focal point doesn't look too lacklustre (the details of the skydome will bleach out pretty quick if you try to boost the light intensity too much).
