New to DAZ, want to start with basic male and female. Need clothes.

Hi,
I have had DAZ for a while but had not had time to use it. Now I am interested in using the characters in iClone. I have everything worked out except for the clothes. I would like to make my own clothes for just the basic male and basic female Genesis characters. I just need/want simple solid long sleeve shirts and baggy straight pants. I am somewhat confused on how to get the right clothes as the Genesis line seems like it covers many generations and iClone only uses the Genesis G1 characters (I am pretty sure), and possibly the G2 characters. So to start simple, I will use the basic male and female from the Genesis Starter Essentials. So which pants and shirts will work with these basic characters? Is there a file that comes with the purchased clothes where I can modify them (mesh)? And what is the best way or least expensive way to get some pants and shirts like I want? I also need hair. So are there package deals with a bunch of shirts or a bunch of hair styles and multi-style pants for these basic characters?
Thanks

Hi, if you join the Platinum Club for $24 for three months or $70 anually, you can many buy items for $1.99 or $2.99. Daz originals are 30% off for members of the Platinum club.

    Examples:
    http://www.daz3d.com/platinum-club-items/neat-pleats
    http://www.daz3d.com/platinum-club-items/casual-jeans-and-t-shirt-for-genesis-2-female-s

Daz has a whole category just for items in the Platinum Club and value category that are less than $10:

You can filter the products by figure: tick the box next to Genesis 2 male or female to see the appropriate products on the left side under "Narrow By" and "Compatible 3D Figures".

Sorry, but I cannot help you with anything else.

I would've posted this message earlier but my tablet deleted my post message before I could post it.

Edit: here is the link to sign up for the platinum club if you do decide to join it:
    http://www.daz3d.com/platinum-club/

Even if you don't join the Platinum Club you can still buy items for $9.99 or less in the Value Category.

Thanks for the reply. So to be safe I will search for and buy clothes for "Genesis" only to insure they fit the basic male and female correct? Or will Genesis 2 clothes fit Genesis? That is the main question so I don't buy stuff that won't work with iClone. Thanks for the info on the club to save $$ too.

I have not tried it yet, but I think you can convert Generation 4 clothing to Genesis in DS and then save it and then use it in iClone. I have not played with iClone much but I am hoping to change that after my vacation.

Have you looked in the Freepository? I believe most generation 4 clothes can be "Autofitted" to genesis. Willmap ? had a lot of clothing in the freepository. If I remember correctly, a lot of it was for Genesis. You will also find more things than you can use on ShareCG and in the Rendo Freepository also.

...Wilmap does wonderful work and a lot of it is for Genesis and Genesis2.. Her items can be found on ShareCG. You need to be a registered member to download but membership is free.

As you both said, I'd start with the awesome freebies. Wilmap has lots of fantastic everyday and contemporary formal clothes. I don't know if iClone "likes" dynamic clothes, but there is a big section of free AND DS-compatible outfits made by OptiTex (the company/PA who knows how to make DS-compatible dynamic wear): http://www.optitex-dynamiccloth.com/FreebieDownload01.php.

    Gus,
I am really new to DAZ as far as actually using it. How do I autofit? Is it automatic and I just select the G4 stuff and either it works or it does not? How do I find Willmap? Thanks for the links or places to check.

There are free interactive lessons on using Autofit to have Genesis 2 figures wear Genesis 1 clothing:
    http://www.daz3d.com/interactive-lessons/using-auto-fit-genesis-to-genesis-2-male
    http://www.daz3d.com/interactive-lessons/using-auto-fit-genesis-to-genesis-2-female

Some of the details are different if you want to use Generation 4 clothing on Genesis 1 characters, but the general process is the same.

Note that Autofitting Genesis 2 clothing to Genesis 1 characters is also possible but requires the purchase of the relevant AutoFit clone:
    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-female-clone-for-genesis
    http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-male-clone-for-genesis

Similarly, there are Autofit clones for sale that will enable you to use Generation 4 clothing on Genesis 2 characters:
    http://www.daz3d.com/victoria-4-for-genesis-2-female
    http://www.daz3d.com/michael-4-for-genesis-2-male
(It's possible to convert Generation 4 clothing to Genesis 2 without the use of these products, but the process is somewhat more complicated and results may not be quite as good)

The general rule for any AutoFit or conversion process is that results will vary depending on the clothing and the characters...it usually works pretty well, but don't expect it to be perfect.

See also the Compatibility Matrix. And if you need more information on the various generations, you can find some in this thread.

    Scott,
Thanks for the detailed and most informative reply. My main concern is that for using DAZ characters in iClone, we can only use G1 Genesis characters although I believe we can also use G2 characters. When I look at the matrix it seems everything is always 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th generation. I am going to research all the good info you posted and see what I can learn.
    Thanks,
    TS

    p.s. If something says:
"Only works with Genesis mesh (not Genesis 2, Michael, Victoria, etc.) " what characters can I really use? I use the base male and base female with no problems and they don't even have a name.

...something to be aware of is that autofitting long skirts, coats, and cloaks/tunics to wither Genesis or Genesis2 can result distortion issues. There are a few very useful utilities from SickleYield to help with this:

Genesis is the fifth generation, and all fifth-generation characters (Victoria 5, Michael 5, etc.) use the Genesis (1) figure.
Genesis 2 is the sixth generation, and all sixth generation characters (Victoria 6, Michael 6, etc.) use the Genesis 2 Female or Genesis 2 Male figures.

With regards to your last question, both generations come standard with a base male and female, so it depends on whether you're using "Basic Female" and "Basic Male" (which are Genesis characters) or "Genesis 2 Base Female" and "Genesis 2 Base Male" (which are Genesis 2 characters). Edited to add: if something works with the Genesis mesh, I'd expect it to work with any Genesis shape or character, including Victoria 5 and Michael 5 (by saying it doesn't work with Victoria or Michael I assume they mean the first four generations of each, which were standalone figures rather than Genesis figures).

I don't know anything about iClone though, so I can't help you there.

As Scott said, Generation 5 is Genesis (the androgynous figure you morph into any gender, even monsters). Generation 6 is Gen2F and Gen2M, respectively. Autofitting things like bodysuits, trousers, lingerie and tight shirts tends to be easier than skirts, gowns and shoes. There are tutorials on that, sometimes you just have to tweak the outfit - good clothes have bones in them that can be moved. For example the free cocktail minidress for Gen2F Sickleyield offers on ShareCG can take sitting poses if you move the parts.

I'd recommend checking out Interactive Lessons from here: http://www.daz3d.com/interactive-lessons. They are free and contain all items you need to utilise them (for the 100% discount on Dagger Dreams, you have to complete Barefoot Dancer which is shipped with Gen2F Starter Essentials).

Thanks Scott. I have read your other informative link on the figures and evolution of Daz. Very good write up.The app that I am using is the FaceGen exporter where it says "only works with Genesis (not Victoria or Michael). I think I totally understand now my Genesis questions but what other Genesis character is the least expensive that I could buy and make sure it works with FaceGen Exporter?
    Thanks again,

Thanks for the added info. I will take all I can get. I got 2 interactive lessons yesterday on autofit. They were FREE like you said and very easy to follow. I will get some more today. For now I am mainly in need of pants and shirts and maybe boots. Simple stuff and long sleeved plain shirts like a t-shirt. I also bought a tutorial on how to make clothes from Fugazi1968 that I need to do. Thanks for the info on the 100% discount. Sounds like a reward for learning. I like it.

As for everyday clothes you mentioned: here is a direct link to Wilmap's account: http://www.sharecg.com/Wilmap. To start with the outfits you are especially looking for, my advice is to go to the last page and then go back - the typical everyday stuff is here, the fancier things appear later. All are amazing though! I have them all :P. One more thing: some of them don't autofit automatically - if you see they don't hug the figure, select them in your item tab, click parameter tab and choose an option to fit to Genesis.

No problem at all, my pleasure! I'm sad I cannot help you more, I don't model clothes. Or I should have said, I tried to - when betatesting DressShop - but after creating something, porting it to DS was a problem, my computer declined my request to save the model as OBJ :). Laslo did get rid of that bug in the official release, but mine is still broken. Back to the topic. I think asking somebody who creates clothes would be a good idea. Wilmap makes outfits and is very helpful. Sickleyield too plus she published a few journal entries on choosing software on her DA page. I don't have the necessary skills to help you choose between Blender, Hexagon and the gazillion other choices.
