Gel Lights in Daz 4.8 Iray Render Engine

KanewtKanewt Posts: 5

Help !!  Has anyone be able to make gel lights work in the Iray render engine?  The image on the left was done in DAZ 4.7 3Delight, the middle image is DAZ 4.8 3Delight, and the right image is DAZ 4.8 Iray.  I have had no luck in getting my gel lighting to work in the Iray render engine or find any info on the issue.  Does anyone know gel lights can work in Iray?  Thanks.

Try making the gel a mask and placing it on a simple plane in front of the light you want to be the projector...I'm not on an Iray capable box, right now so I can't get the specifics.  But the mask would probably go into the Cutout slot on the plane.

  • Kanewt, How did you get it to even render w/4.8? I try to merge a shadow with a color gel but they just replace each other.

mjc1016...Can you give steps on how to do so????

I don't have access a machine I can run Iray on, right now, so it will be sometime later that I can do the exact steps.

You can have a look at the settings I suggested for stained glass, it should also work as a gel.

Bishop8274, I used the previous 3Delight Render Engine in 4.8 same as in 4.7.  I used a youtube tutorial as a guide when I did it in originally 4.7.  (Not in english but still helpful)

prixat - Thanks, but no luck. I also tried a lot of other settings with no luck either.  I found some other disappointing info: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/779936/

...its just a spot light and primitives, you should be able to get the material setting out of it.

Thanks prixat!!  I never thought to use the surface as a light filter for the spot light.  I kept trying to use the plane as an emission surface itself.  I still need to tweak it some more, but now I am on the right path.  Thanks again.

  • I found this short thread a mine of useful information.

Did you plug the mask into 'Cutout opacity' or use another technique?
