Above and Beyond Challenge - Winners Announced
Carrara Challenge #19: Above and Beyond
"Above and Beyond" refers to anything that takes place above the surface of the earth. This could include anything from a space scene from your favorite space opera, a WW1 dog fight, a trip in a hot air balloon, to a romantic dinner on your 15th floor balcony overlooking a scenic park. So, fly a kite, climb a tree, or pull a parachute cord, but do it with Carrara as part of your workflow.

Some early ideas are rolling in for Above and Beyond.
- Bigh started it all off with a bird's eye view of a beautiful landscape
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/875738/#Comment_875738
- Varsel very generously provided a tutorial for making rope, string, thread and similar items,
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/876073/#Comment_876073
- and I've already put together my first concept WIP. I modeled some simple shapes to assemble a unicycle, used the extrude and rotate tools to make a rope, and threw in genesis (yes, genesis works in Carrara 8.5) to sketch out my early thinking. I'll be making progressive improvements over the next 5 weeks but this is the basic dea. Constructive criticism most welcome because there are still 5 weeks to go.
Come on in, the water is fine. Or, just stop by and join the conversation in the WIP thread.
I'm definitely taking notes on the tips being shared in the Carrara monethly challenge - Above and Beyond.
Varsel is creating a cool flying concept racer piloted by Predatron's Lorenzo Lorez in a custom flightsuit.

FifthElement will be having a custom character from MakeHuman looking out a space window.

MD02010 has about finished his cloud city

and is now working on a second entry focusing on the G2F Gia 6 character.

Chickenman is considering a concept using a nebula, but the details are still mysterious. Mystery can be cool, but folks are offering suggestions from volumetric clouds to filter forge effects to generate the nebula.

So, take your sketchbook everywhere, including the 19th Carrara challenge

For some reason, the silly pic that I tried to upload yesterday never loaded. So here it is.
Are you Peeking Diomede, you missed the Nebula over the sholder right about where the text on the right is.
There is still time to join in the 19th Carrara challenge and get cool Daz prizes.
Chickenman revealed some answers to nebula questions. Fog lets you put in swirls but volumetric clouds react to light. Combination may be the answer.

with a spaceship added

Stezza dropped by to show off his new drone model. Definitiely worth seeing how it is put together.

Stezza also has a second image with a craft over Australia.

FifthElement has a completed draft of an amazing SciFi scene.

Plenty of time left, folks. Can add works in progress through September 5th.

Inspirational freebies! NASA has posted free models, including the Mars Curiosity Rover.
(hat tip, Fifthelement). Still 2 weeks to get involved.

Varsel has modeled a cool flyer, inluenced by Stezza's model of a drone. Still some details to work out, such as whether the pilot will be M4 or Lorenzo LowRes.

Bunyip has been busy. Two scenes are in the works. One incorporates some models of WWII aircraft amid some of Carrara's volumetric clouds.

And another has 2 dragons facingoff in flight.

I might do a second image, but I'm still thinking about ideas. I doodled a mock tornado using metaballs as a frame and then replicating small dust particles. I turned visibility off for the frame and threw in a low res house. Hope Dorothy is OK. But, I'm open to other ideas.

Chickenman's Star Trek inspired starbase is looking excellent, with Starfleet and Klingon ships docking. His nebula effect is looking good.

with some lighting adjustments here.

Fifthelement is now my hero. Let us all know that NASA has a beta website where they post models of NASA related equipment, asteroids, and planetary terrains. You can check out how a NASA astronaught model is used here.
