Why are there so few aniblocks in the store?

Hi,

I love the animation capabilities of Daz Studio. I do not yet have Animate2, keymate and graphmate -- I'm planning on getting them real soon. I just play with the timeline animations for now.

I went to look for pre-made aniblock animations, but only found a few of them in the store. Why is this? Is it because people are not interested in them, and mainly focus on still images (I founds lots of poses), or is it because animation is so easy with Animate2, that you don't need any pre-made aniblocks?

Thanks,

Ati2

I think that is quite a lot of Aniblocks.   With the full version of Animate2, you can create your own Aniblocks, which I imagine most people do.   There are loads of free mocap files available on the web, and these can mostly be imported to DAZ Studio, and Aniblocks created from them

    Yes, I saw that. It's a total of 1 page. 1 animation-pack for every 26 pose-packs. laugh

Speaking of mocap files, do you happen to know if there are any good sites with mocap that can be imported to work well with genesis 2 chaeacters? I tried quite a few, and read that they are supposed to work with M4, which I don't have. V4.2 seemed to be the closest, and even with that, I honestly could not even identify what the movement was supposed to be. Same with Gen 1 and Gen 2. It wasn't a matter of cleaning it up, the start pose was very morbid, then the movements were totally unidentifyable. I gave up on this -- maybe just before finding a site with usable mocap files? :)

You can use aniblocks to fix the animations to work for Genesis or G2F.  Not sure about with animate free. But with Animate full you get to have different layers. One layer can be the correction layer. Thats what I do.

Not going to see a ton of animations specifically for Genesis/G2/G3. Most people don't do animations. There are a handful of PA that sell animations here. Slim pickings. Lots of stuff is older and for V4. There are a few genesis specific ones though.

As JimmyC said, you can get other animations imported into DS. Make aniblocks out of them. Use the technique to fix the animations to work better for genesis figures.

If mocap files seem completely off, your import settings may be part of it. Also I've seen some mocap files that state specifically they are set to work for DS. (even then, typically for gen4 and not newer).

Animate isn't great to make your own animations with persay. Its about making and using aniblocks. It does not give you enhanced posing tools. And you really need something like keymate to really get the timing and controls right. I like animate, for what it is designed to do, but I would not credit it with making the process of manually animating easier. It has nothing to do with that.

Reason people don't do animation is because most people don't have time or ambition for that. A still picture still takes many users hours to make, and maybe an hour to render. That's a dedicated hobbyist! For animation, it could take a full day to render 30 seconds worth...And unless you like crappy quality animations, you could spend days refining it. So not as many people buy animations for those reasons. So not as many people make them. Big barrier and burden in that market.

Oh, okay, I'll give that a try once I have the full version. I saw in the tutorial videos that there's a "retarget" button, which is not there in the free version. If that would make the mocap files at least recognizable, that would be a huge step forward.

  • retargeting is one thing, but another thing is simply making an aniblock that corrects the pose. Basically when you compare V4 and Genesis, their starting poses are not exactly the same. You make an offset aniblock where you adjust the Genesis figures pose to match V4. You set this up as an additive layer in animate. This means the base animation will add the offset to the animation, making it look more like an animation made for genesis.

You can use these, but I made my own

I finally got the full Animate2 (love this PA festival :D ). I just tried these aniblocks you mentioned, didn't really play with them because it is 1 in the morning here. :D I already see this is going to make life so much easier! Tomorrow (today...) is my play-day, I think I'll have much to do. :))))
