Of course, Daz has given up on Carrara development, so cue the sad trombone.
For those who aren't familiar with the Carrara forums, this is speculation, not fact.
effectively, this is true. Let's be realistic. Software that is active, gets updates, very quickly. Cararra, not so much. Hex, not so much. Daz Studio, very active.
Octane, very active. (octane plugin, more active than Carrara or Hex...but still not up to the speed people expect in active software)
For reference, Silo is pretty much dead. Had 1 update in like 2 years. More active than Hex, or Carrara. Less active than Octane Plugin...and yet octane plugin is considered effective dead. So when you look at it this way...yeah its dead. It's not active enough for modern times.
BTW, the Octane plugin may be dead, but Octane is not. Octane is not Carrara. It's not most of what Carrara is. But Carrara has an Octane render plugin, which says what a lot. I have both. So just sayin...
Octane is an amazing render solution. It's not for everyone. :)
i did a quickie 3 min EXR render with this http://www.daz3d.com/tropical-bundle-for-daz-studio-plugin-octanerender lowest settings. No bump and stuff. Did not manipulate textures to look pretty. Using updated Octane and not the one this pack was designed for. Direct lighting (poor man stuff, not unbiased...) Lowest quality, Super low budget render.
The EXR is 20mb, so a dropbox link for those who care
cube renders for 5 seconds. Using my own EXR made from a scene i bought years ago. So I understand the value of making your own EXR/HDR....would not bother doing this in Carrara...
I do wish we had this camera in Daz studio. I would abuse it.

there is always Octane and Luxus plugins and what could be added there![cheeky cheeky](http://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/tongue_smile.png)
$60 for Carrara, with lots of pipes to Daz, or $300 for Octane, without? HMMM
just saying where development is more likely to come from![devil devil](http://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/devil_smile.png)
