Where to find night time city scape background

Not having much luck. I searched the daz store, rendo, and even turbosquid. Turbosquid had one but theres no way I'm paying $45.00 for a jpg cityscape background, thats insane.

Thanks

Opps, the photo is by Dmitry Avdeev.

  • Try Pixabay maybe? You have to register but they have a ton of high quality pictures free for any use, including some city shots.  Not sure how exactly you are planning to use the image so it's hard to say if any of them are good for your purpose though.  https://pixabay.com/

Also try searching on DeviantArt for "stock city night."  A lot of people post their photos and renders as stock on there, although the terms vary wildly and sometimes it is hard to figure out what they are for any given image; there are a ton that you just have to credit the original artist to use.  http://www.deviantart.com/browse/all/?section=&global=1&q=stock+city+night

That is beautiful.......and perfect in everyway. I need something that I can use and won't get in trouble for doing so however.

You may well be able to use it depending on what you want to do with the render, the creative commons licence asks only that you mention Dmitry Avdeev if you use it. I'm assuming for non commercial renders but check with him, he left hie email on the web page I linked to.

Hey thanks. Pixabay has a few that will work and they seem ok with commercial use, not that I need them to be, but one never knows down the road, so I'd rather that they are free for commercial use. I think I'll get a few of them for sure. Thanks

ok, will do because it's very nice also. I'd rather have txt'rs tht can be used for commercial use (just in case), but I will check into this. Thanks so much. yes

Have you tried morguefile? Shedloads of images, all free for any purpose, personal or commercial, and no attribution required, it's the first place I always look. A search of the site using the term 'city night' returns dozens of images, so there could well be something suitable there.

Thanks. I will check into that too.

  • If you are interested, a few years ago I rendered Dystopia City Blocks as a spherical render. It is .jpg and quite large, maybe 8000X4000 or something similar. Here's the link for my ShareCG account:

    Hey Evil;

ya I saw that the other night. Nice. I've never been able to figure out how to get all those windows lit up when I've loaded the dystopia stuff I have, so hats off to you. yes  I did think about d/l it, giving you credit of course, but I just haven't made a decision yet. I appreciate you mentioning it. I'll have to check out all the options, maybe in the morning when I get in from work.

errrr, I should have mentioned, that I only had one set, but purchased two of the next sets in order from the pa sale the other day, but only spent the time to throw together what's in the attachment, and then spent maybe 5-10 mins trying to get lights, in-other-words; not very long. I'll have to mess with them when I have more time. This render was before messing with the night sky-dome and fiddling with lights. What I'm really looking for is something like Chris_78999 posted above, but maybe a bit closer, like your "in" the city, as if the buildings might be around you. I'm just trying to do the same ole thing as others have done, having a city scene outside a window of an apartment, etc.

  • No offense taken if it is not for you. Like all things, it is very scene dependent.

Also, no credit is required, it's unrestricted use as it was done for a few reasons, one, I wanted a night city-scape, two, I wanted to try and light the windows, and three, it was really to see if I could do a decent spherical render.

The lighted windows are created procedurally in Carrara using various functions in the glow channel. I didn't use the .mat files for the night scene as I couldn't get them to work either. Probably due to differences in Carrara, Poser and Studio's shader and render engines.

  • Ooh! I see I'm missing a couple blocks. How many were there? I have 1-20.

nah, no offense was meant. It is very nice and I like the dual function (or it looks as though it has a dual function) as an image AND hdri. I just need the feel that you are right in the city, that the buildings are around you, that you'r building is in the middle of the others. Ya, the mat files are where I was having the prob, but I just didn't spend much time on them, was more of a quick investigation to familiarize myself more with dystopia really. Chris's link is basically perfect in everyway except that the view is "outside" the city vs enveloped within it. sad or maybe your image once actually used does put you within the city, I'm not sure. I can try it in the morning. I guess you'd know better than me at this point. smiley

  • I have a little youtube video. The only geometry in the scene is the space ship and the building in the foreground. The rest is the spherical render.

To have it envelope the scene, I would map it to a scene encompassing sphere. Unless there is a way to have it as background. I don't use Studio, so I don't have a full grasp of its inner workings.

Thats kind of neat. I like the lights on the front of the ship. yes  I need to animate more. frown

I have to thank you for this link. A while ago I came across this site in a thread (probably here) and over time lost the link and forgot the name and could not find it again... Google and Bing are useless sometimes. Thanks 1.7 million times... I was starting to think the site closed or something.
