Wait... Europeans have museums full of porn?

    Cooool...

All we have is Porn Depot... And that doesn't completely reflect the full and complex history of porn.

    Yes.

OTOH, you have to go to Europe's dark underbelly places to buy those illegal copies of the Rambo series. Just be careful. They have sting operations set up to catch anyone trying to get one.

Well, the DAZ site is kind of funny - at least for me as a European.

In the store and the gallery we meet all kinds of violence. There are deadly weapons, armours, all kinds of creatures, monsters and demons. We can even buy pruducts to drench our characters in blood and slime. But a bare nipple? Oh my god, we cannot do that. That´s not family friendly!?!

yesyesyes. Sometimes i think N.American people see European's museums full of porn. Maybe the solution could be a default ative filter to block nude images, and let people decide deactivate it or not.

Uhh... you do know there are museums just like the "European" museums in the US too right?

This is true, there is one in Las Vegas (go figure.) But how many are located in the Bible Belt?

There are plenty of museums in the Bible Belt and more all the time. It's not like most of the content in the museums and the Bible are talking about different things after all. wink

I'd like to see some examples, because I can't find any using Google. I found the Kentucky Creation Museum, though. Maybe I'm not using the best key words.

Easiest way is pick a state, pick its largest city, type in "largest city" art museum.  Even Wichita has one. I mean they're probably not doing too many exhibitions the Neue Sachlichkeit movement, but literally every major city in the US has an art museum of some sort

    Perfect for this youtube-video:

  • Could always have a separate un-indexed forum on a different domain. Trouble would be the wording of the link to access it and where to put that link on this forum/site. Could always word it as "Other discussions" with a warning when you enter. Dunno, just throwing ideas out there.

It's not enough to type something into google to find what you are looking for, all sorts of museums and at the least, sophistated culture exists in rural areas worldwide, even absent the Guggenheim or the NYC Metropolitan.

Amon Carter museum for one. Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Speed Museum at the University of Lousiville. Headley-Whitley Art Museum, The Art Museum of the University of Kentucky. Fred Parker Gile Gallery at Eastern Kentucky University, and the Kentucky Coal Mining Museum in Benham, KY for another, my father, grandfathers, and uncles all worked those coal mines to heat the Guggenheim and such places I'm glad I never had to.

Also there is a very well-known college called Berea College that is free to attend and teached traditional folk art and crafts to their students.

That's only a short list of museums.

There's a sex museum in Prague.  When I visited, they were actually showing a vintage porn film containing the world's first threesome.  It was... educational.

Mind you, there is also a sex museum in New York City.  So it's definitely not just a European thing.

One thing I did notice about Europe though is nudity is much less of an issue.  I occationally came across store windows with advertisements depicting nude women.  It just didn't seem a big deal over there.

First filmed threesome. I can guarentee the first recorded threesome happened long before the invention of film (There are endless complaints and rude verse written about Julius Caesar, just for starters).

I don't know if there's an actual forum rule about uttering the name of "the other store", but I know linking to it is verboten and forum culture is to avoid mentioning the name of any other store, out of respect for our corporate hosts. They are, after all, a business, and sending business to another provider does seem a tetch rude to them.

And that's a really big thing - they're a business. Zoning issues aside, advertising dollars aside, DAZ's primary business is selling stuff in the store. That requires credit card processing, paypal processing, and cheque cashing - all of which suddenly becomes rather more expensive if you're judged to be in the adult entertainment business, because the financial partners need to cover their own behinds legally.

Which is the biggest issue. Laws. There's the hairball of wildly varying local laws on what is or is not illegal (biggest example: underage characters), and whether entirely CGI characters can somehow be determined to be "of age" despite being completely fictional (an issue with US consumption laws, and Canadian import laws, which require even fictional characters to be "of age" or a reasonable impersonation of same).

Without actual numbers it's impossible to say how many people are doing adult stuff, but judging from anecdotal evidence I'd say that it's a lot.  With the other place seeing a continual drop in membership and participation, now would be a good time for Daz to open an associate store and forum in another country but as a separate entity, and keep it at arms length.  There's big money to be made in salacious content.  Just please keep the extreme fringe element out.

I don't think this site needs an Adult section, but I can see how some buyers may want to see a whole product without swim suits covering things up and maybe there could be links for promos (with warnings) to sites hosted outside of Utah just so PAs could show their products in their entirety in a non-sexual way, just a store mannequin sort of way... There is a big difference between pornography and simply a promo for a product. Nudity can be seen in museums and major upscale art galleries and art shows all over the world and is not considered pornography.

    I second this.

Knowing in whole what you're supposed to purchase likely would tip the decision towards "purchase" more often, while right now it's like "well, I don't know, so I don't buy" - I don't like real money gambles. Rendo does it right and I see no problem with their solution at all, plus I absolutely don't think it's pornographic in any way.

Having enough in my library for months of rendering (ATI user ;p) already, this ends up in: no deal. Easy as that.

Interestingly enough, the lack of posted nude images has had only minimal impact on the sales of figures as far as I can tell. And if you really want to find those for items sold here, sites like deviantArt are usually where the artists that make the items will post such images, if they choose to do that kind of render.

Sure I could. But then, why should I? It's not that my library is in dire need of more content... ;-p
If there are more users thinking like this and they are not visiting the forums, which is always the majority, how can one measure that this has no impact?

    Back to topic:
What some, amongst them me, simply ask for, is to get the best information about a product, prior buying, that is possible. This is not happening right now, it's a pure gamble what the promo shots will show and some things are never shown at all, yet they are part of a product you're supposed to buy.

I know it's not a solution out-of-the-box, but I don't need to see the figure itself, I'm perfectly fine with a scaled down, watermarked, little-bit blurred if it needs to be, diffuse textures. It's enough for me to check the quality and features of the skin, most of the time. But that's just me...

    > threads on the anatomical elements certainly aren't the majority

Yeah because posting about something like this on these boards is like running backwards, blindfolded through a mine field. You do it once, if you dare to do it at all, but next time you say "ah forget about it, not worth the trouble". Occassionaly I see a new user daring the dance in the minefield, though... ;-)

  • I've asked the question about the genitals being missing myself in these forums and gotten my answers.  I would prefer not to have an adult section here.  Renderotica is more than good enough for that.  If Daz had the genitals included whenever you bought the base figure it would head off every question about where they are and this whole discussion would be uneccesary.  Not including them makes about as much sense as if they had purposefully not allowed us to have the figure's right leg.  Are genitals part of the human body, or not?

Just silly if you ask me, but there are plenty of people here who are mroe than willing to help when users have questions and Richard does his best as well.  He has helped me out many many times int hese forums through the years.

I didn't say no impact, I said minimal impact; not the same thing. We have to realize that the PAs are really the only ones that can say to what extent there is an impact if they happen to sell at another store that does allow nude promos; most likely don't really see a significant difference with or without.

So would putting the information about what package they ARE included in into a FAQ. And in all honesty, for the audience that DAZ seems to want to focus its marketing on, is it something that is absolutely essential to have included in the base package of the adult characterss?

  •     Yeah, there are a lot of sites that let you post nude images..   and I don't see a need for them on Daz3d.com unless they decide they want it.   I do agree that a more detailed Description of what is included with Skin Textures would be nice.   I have been sadly dissapointed when I bought a nice skin texture and then had to hand build parts of it because the product never said it didn't include "parts".

If the store page doesn't specifically say that material presets for the anatomical elements are included, the PA didn't make any.

Some store materials do not include a breakdown of which parts are covered..  they just say "Complete Skin for "    Some of those include files for the naughty bits and some don't.   I think it is more what the designer populates the store entry with than what Daz includes.   That's one reason why I like some other sites where by clicking on a link it will tell you every file included with the product.

I suspect some of the stuff you're talking about is from the merger with RuntimeDNA, which often was a straight copy of the text from that site to the DAZ store page. Also, for file lists for store content, check out this section of the wiki: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/start

A few years ago DAZ tried to setup a collaborative art site called "ArtZone". ArtZone site and store had a way more permissive TOS than the regular DAZ site. Let's simply say that it wasn't exactly a success... ;)

  • There was also PoserPros, though I can't recall how permissive their ToS were.

Let's face it, at least 30% of DAZ users are using it to make adult content.  The most frequent threads are about gen issues.  The biggest issue artists whine about is the lack of gen material available at a reasonable cost from DAZ.  Why not just create a category for Adult Content. This category could contain how-to threads, suggestions, faqs and provide a place for artists to go and get help without worrying about offending someone or slogging through dozens of threads before finally getting to something helpful.

    Just a suggestion.

You're joking???? A company who can't even use the word "genitals" is going to have an adult content section??????    You want Renderotica
