Small World Camera and HRDI as Render Shortcuts?

I've wondered if this was possible ever since poser introduced IBL. The idea I have is to set the scene up and render it once and then use it as the lighting for the scenes with people in them.

It sounds like this product would actually allow for that sort of usage. Has anyone tried it? If so, I'd love to see some examples of renders.

  • I have yet to do it, but what you are asking about is actually possible without this product, you just need to do a spherical render (the option should be in the camera parameters tab) and render it as an HDRI that you can later on plug into the environment channel. The product allows automatization, the inclusion of coronas on the horizon line and the option to render for 180° skydomes (as far as I understand it). Marshian is a very ingenious vendor, so I am sure it is a worthy addition to your library, just not necessary for what you want to do.

You can use small world camera for lighting in Iray. Converting your png, jpg, or tif render to a 32bit .hdr image would take the quality of light to the next level. Thanks Uthgard! I strive to create the unique.
