    You are going to have to be more specific about what you want, any surface on any object can have displacement.

    I wonder just how high the sub-d would have to be for V7 in iray?

    The trick is to have the initial mesh render SubD resolution set higher to start with. I find mesh at 4 and displacement at 2 covers most scenarios. I'm pretty sure a higher mesh starting resolution also gives a better result, but can't qualify that without proper testing.
