I recommend installing the free program Stellarium - http://www.stellarium.org/en_CA/ - that way you can help plan what to do and where to find it. You can also use it to go back in time to look at what was there.

Yes that's a lovely program. And one realizes how badly light pollution dims the heavens from view.

I have used to be certain that various planets were not what I was seeing in the sky. One can turn on/off the earth from view which is neat to see where all the constellations are.
