Parent in place

"Parent in place" What the heck does this mean. I have tried to look it up in the on line docs but get nothing satisfactory.

Parenting means to move the object in the Scene pane hierarchy to be subordinate to another object (it becomes a "child" of the other object; the other object becomes the "parent"). The "in place" part means that the object does not change its location in the viewport.

  • If you don't have this on the parented item will snap its centre point to the new parent's centre point.

It's also useful to position props, cameras, etc. Say you have something positioned as you like.  Make a new Camera which will default to the world center. Parent the new Cam to the object with Parent in Place OFF, it will jump to the objects placement as Richard just mentioned.  Now just move the camera away from the object a bit so you can see & frame it. You can do the same trick positioning things to Cameras.
