Only slightly off topic: has anyone played with the hair system in Blender?

I had a tinker with the fibermesh hair in ZBrush when I had access to it on a PC a while ago but not enought to create anything useful. I have Blender but it is so wide-ranging that I tend to try to learn it in small chunks. So I've yet to give the hair a try.

I see the Laticis hair is made in ZBrush and it does look reasonably like hair rather than cut-wire strands. I wonder whether the same is true of Blender hair - or even whether it is possible to import it into DAZ Studio?

For Blender hair it's more in the conversion from a particle system to a mesh object as to how good the end product will look. It's not an easy, one step conversion. I haven't played much with it, but it can give good looking results...IF you spend the time.

There's two methods...one converts the particles to flat 'strands'...this is actually probably better for grass than hair.

The other involves converting to curves, then to a mesh...and takes a bit of work to get 'right'.

Neither is very light weight or quick/easy to get good results.

Just spotted this freebie at Rendo and thought of this thread:

    https://market.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?item_id=64611

I've not downloaded it myself so have no idea if it's any good.

Looks to me this is just a second skin for M4, so would work on Genesis, but is not actually hair. With a reasonable displacement map second skin hair may not look too bad from a distance, but would be fairly poor for a close up render.
