Can't Set 'Deep Shadow' on Key Light

Hi all!

I am trying to create a key light for a new scene. I selected a spotlight, named it key light, put it where I wanted it. I then wanted to set the light to cast 'deep shadows,' so I went to the parameters settings for the key light.

But there is no selection for 'shadow.' Or anything even vaguely related to it. I'm attaching a screen shot.

I then selected the key light and changed from paramters to the lights tab. I've attached a second screen shot: There's nothing in the 'shadow' box except a link to a couple of videos.

I tried creating it again, same thing. Tried using a distant light, etc., with the same results.

I'm doing something fundamnetally wrong, but I can't figure out what. Any suggestions? Running Studio 4.9.

Thanks!

I am guessing your rendering in Iray. Like real lights Iray lights don't have an on off for shadowing. Also, Iray lights are not increased with intensity (unless they changed it). You need to increase the luminous flux (lumen).

  • Thanks, Khory! Yep, I was using Iray. No wonder I couldn't get it to work. Turns out the tutorial I was watching was for a previous edition of Studio.

It still works with new versions of DazStudio - if you set the render engine to 3Delight instead of Iray.

But I wouldn't recommend Deep Shadow maps anyway - there is a problem with funky disco dots appearing since quite a lot of versions of 3delight when rendering with Deep Shadow maps.
