Zbrush applying textures

How do you apply textures in zbrush to more then one surface? It makes it very hard to know what I'm doing when adding the face mat to the texture, covers the entire figure. I want to be able to apply the eye mats, so I can get a better judment of what I'm doing to the face.

    Autogroup by topology and UV continuity

    then use the polygroups to load texture maps, one by one

    G3 has far fewer maps than G1, so slightly more fun to work on
