Files use in DAZ

I find the navigation of content very frustrating.  Too may times it seem scattered about.

Is there some way I can manage the directory structure such that for a particular model ( Genisis, Genisis2, Kids4 etc.) with all content related to those specific models all in one place for each and not duplicated elsewhere?

I would like one folder for ALL props, all Shaders and so on. I am constantly opening and closing menus looking for something.

It would be wonderful if the developers would make a drag and drop structure in the navigation area so users can drag the content they use most to a common location making stuff easy to find.

I find certain types of files do ceratin things.

Daz Native:

.duf
.dsf
.dsv
.dso

.ds [“DAZ Studio”]
.dsa [“DAZ Studio Ascii”]
.dsb [“DAZ Studio Binary”
.dsx
.dss [“DAZ Studio Script”]
.daz [“DAZ Studio Scene”]

Poser Content:

Figure    .cr2  (base figure)
Hair    .hr2
Prop    .pp2
Pose    .pz2
Hand:    .hd2
Face    .fc2
Light    .lt2
.mc6

Is there a complete list of each file type ( by extension ) along with the folders they need to reside in?

What I find frustrating is Poser content that won't open, usually in .mc6 format I think. And I don't like that most if not all of my .dsa files don't seem to want to work. In addition some of the textures often have to be searched for when I open my very favorite old 3DU Poser characters.

Using categories you can group items freely.

Remember that .mc6 is a Poser materials format; it can't be loaded into the scene on its own, you must have the proper item that the materials are supposed to be applied to already in the scene and selected.

And I don't like that most if not all of my .dsa files don't seem to want to work.

How old are these .dsa script files? File formats have changed a lot over the years — some scripts built for the very early D|S versions don't work any more in recent D|S versions if you click on them in the Content tab, but they will work if you drag them out of the Content tab and onto the object in your scene that you want to apply them to.

In addition some of the textures often have to be searched for when I open my very favorite old 3DU Poser characters.

Again, how old are these Poser items? Way back in ancient times, the Poser script format for defining texture file locations (which D|S still uses) wasn't well understood. Also, Poser was always better than D|S at detecting and correcting for incomplete or incorrect texture references — in fact, for the last few years D|S has had the option to automatically search for textures removed (mainly because it worked very badly and very, very slowly). So it's not really all that unusual to find the occasional old Poser item that loads perfectly in Poser, but kicks up assorted "can't find file" errors in recent versions of D|S.

All the DAZ Studio items can be arranged how ever you want using Windows file explorer. Here's a sample my  content library. Is this what you want?

That's, I think, one of the alternative styles - Window>Style>Select Style.

Richard is correct that I use a modified style. Mine based on one of the Studio styles, but my modifications did not change the highlight from the Studio choice.
