DIM downloaded installers

Do I have to keep these on my pc? I see they are taking up quite a bit of room. I have copied them to an external drive.

If I can delete them, do I just select the files and delete them? Or do I delete them from inside DIM somehow?

The files are under Users/Public Documents/Daz 3d/InstallManager

There are 3 folders inside the InstallManager folder:

Downloads

FIlters

ManifestFiles

Thanks.

You can do either. When in DIM, there is a checkbox at the bottom of the screen where you select the product. It says something like delete after install.

Thanks. But what is it that tells DIM what you have alread installed? Are those the files in the manifest folder?

In the Downloads folder there are zip files and .dsx files. Can you delete both of them? Or does the .dsx file need to stay.

What I would like to do is have DIM remember what I have installed. Backup the downloads to an external drive and then let it store the new files so I can back up and then delete.

Yes, it's the manifest files that tell DIM what you already have installed, and also whether there are any updates available for download.

Note that these manifest files are all quite small; if they're deleted in the name of "saving HD space" or "tidying up" (hint: doing this isn't either) then DIM will promptly tell you nothing is downloaded or installed.

Also, keep in mind that DIM and D|S do not talk to each other — DIM downloads and installs to a folder named in its presets, and D|S reads installed files from a folder named in its presets.

Hmm. <note to self - keep a copy of this, this time!>

There are three manifest files (.dsx files) used by DIM. The one in your download folder is the customer manifest; it has the trivia about your order of the product - date, order number, product ID and other such. In the zip file is a product manifest - the list of files, product name, ID, sku, package date and similar information. When you install a product, DIM creates an installation manifest by combining the two, adding the install date and the installation path. The installation manifest is used by DIM to track installed products and is located in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ManifestFiles - so as long as you don't whack this directory or the files in it DIM knows ehat has been installed. Likewise, its a pretty good idea to back this up periodically.

For deletion of the downloads after install there are two 'approved' methods; click on the "Delete files after Installation" box at the bottom of the Ready to Install tab, or on the Installed tab, select some product or group of products (or the whole set), right click, and select "Delete Packages All Selected".

Thanks Cris - but I'll stand by my short form as more user-friendly, even if I do get the names wrong. cheeky

Thanks. It was really quite simple once I knew how. But you need to be careful where you right click to get the "Delete Selected Packages". When I right clicked on the arrow at the end of the line, it would just show one product. When I right clicked over the Uninstall link, it uninstalled that product. Not what I wanted. But when I selected all the products and right clicked over where the products were named, it deleted all the packages. And Dim still knows what I have installed.

    Thanks again.
