Titan X / 1080 / GTX Titan X

Hey,

I'm opening this thread to have a clear answer of a question i have since the new Pascal architecture.
As it seems Daz will support soon the new GPU i was wondering what should i take to replace my old Titans 6go, what's the best deal :

- Titan X with the 12go of Vram which could allow me to render huge scene (i've encounter time to time some trouble when rendering scenes which are, it seems, too huge for my current cards, for example i'm not able to render 3 G3 in the same scene unless there's a trick to do it ^^. The less is Titan X is strictly sold by only Nvidia so the price may be a "problem" but manageable.

- GTX 1080 could probably be the best deal (?), my main "fear" is: the 8go of Vram will it be enough ? & what will be the difference in rendering between the Titan X (hard to answer i know as there's no benchmark on iray with Pascal ^^)

- "Old" GTX Titan X: the main problem here, few choice on the constructor (no way for used cards)

- Last option i have in mind is to wait 1080ti (in hope of 16Go reached) or even new Titan (?).

In the case of 1080, is x3 1080 will be faster as x2 Titan X, if someone as an idea.
As i said i'm currently running 3 Titans & in some case i'm not able to render some scenes (especially when shadows are a pain, too much noises) & few "huge" scenes (that's not my main renders).
I'll finish,Nvidia has planned to swap scenes on RAM when too huge, as Octane do ?

Thanks,

EDIT: i've read on few site that the next 1080ti will have 16go of Vram with more Cuda cores than the Titan X (3860) ?! If it's true, clearly i will wait for them :O

I would believe those sites.  nVidia is not going to create a 1080Ti with MORE power than the TitanXP, and then sell it for less.  And if they price it higher, it will be outside the reach of everyone except professionals and small studios.

I'd estimate the 1080Ti to have 8GB GDDR5X like all the 1080's, but have more CUDA cores, probably 3072 cores, or somewhere in the middle between the core counts of the 1080 and the TitanXP.

With the current pricing on the 1080s, I'd also expect the 1080Ti to start at a $950 USD price.  That puts it between the 1080 ($700 US) and the TitanXP ($1200 US.)  At least for 'Founders Editions'......

Wait and see what the 1080ti has; seriously, if you read anyone claiming something, ask yourself where are they getting the info from? What's their agenda for making the claims?

Going off the previous ti versions, they have been similar to the titans but with less RAM; I'd expect similar this time, but I'm guessing as much as speculating.

The only ones that know are Nvidia, and they don't say as can affect the sales of existing products.

I have a 980ti and can render scenes with three or four G3 figues in it; they will be dressed (not just bikinis) and there will be some general scene and background elements. More than four figures usually drops to CPU; I was doing one with six or seven a few days ago, and had to render it twice with different figures in it.

If you want more figures in a scene, use the same textures, and vary them very slightly by tweaking the shader values if that will suit your needs. I've had eight or nine figures in a scene when sharing textures. You could also try instancing.
