Content not visible in 4.8 . . . and what about 4.9?

I'm currently using at least two versions of DAZ: one beta (4.9.0.44) and an older "standard" version (4.8.0.59). I have been having various glitches lately with the beta . . . I actually thought they were issues with my computer until I realized I did not get them with the earlier4.8xx version. OK that's to be expected with a beta. The problem is, I like working with the beta, all my custom content categories show up there, etc. In the 4.8 version, on the other hand, most of my content does show up, but a few categories do not (the folder is there but content looks empty). I really don't see any pattern as to which show (most) and which don't.
a) What should I do in 4.8 to get my custom catergies to show? I found a short tutorial on importing/exporting custom content categories . . . I suppose that's it but I'm just worried about doing something drastic that will "nuke" everything.
b) Similarly with the new 4.9.2.7. Maybe it's OK, but I'm worried about installing it and losing all my content (I did some reading about issues people are having . . . finding it puzzling). Any suggestions would be welcome. My content categories have all been manually installed and built up over several years . . . I do back up regularly of course.

Any categories you made in 4.9 don't show up in 4.8, but it works the other way around. I'm running the same 4.8/4.9Beta setup as you do, and I do all my categorizing in 4.8.
Note to self:
Content Database Maintenance / Re-import Metadata
That was what I needed to - fixed the problem in 4.8. Still not sure about the new 4.9.
Remember, the beta installs with its own default settings and pointers to various data locations used by any D|S version. Changes you make in the current release don't propagate automatically to the beta, and vice versa — you must make sure yourself that both installed versions are set up the same way.
I am having the same problem, tried re-importing metadata with user data override turned on too. Using 4.8 general release and 4.9 public beta. The reason being is that I originally upgraded to 4.9 and lost all of my 4.8 plugins, however I kept a standalone installer of 4.8. That being said..
Would it be possible to have two general releases side by side using my standalone installer? I would literally only be using 4.8 to locate and organize content and get my scene going, then when i want to use my Dynamic Cloth Control or the improved iRay render engine/ shaders. I would save the scene, export userdata, open 4.9, reimport userdata, open my saved scene and continue my work. Do you think that could work? How would I go about installing the two general releases side by side?
A work-around of which I would gladly abandon 4.8 in favor of 4.9; if they would just give us a way to indicate what directories have newly installed content!
Replied in your stand-alone thread - please don't post the same question in multiple threads, it leads to duplication of effort for those trying to help.
Sorry, wasn't sure if I was in right forum for it. Mea Culpa.
