New Laptop with SSD - Any tips on setting up Daz Studio to 2nd HDD?

I have finally entered the new era of SSDs. My new Win10 laptop has a 256GB SSD and a second 1TB HDD, which is of course configured to put the OS on the SSD. I want to put Daz Studio on the HDD, along with the accompanying HUGE Product Library (not to mention the associated product library for various installs of Poser).

I plan to create a new Program Files directory on the D drive and instruct it to install the software there.  I'm familiar with the general concepts of this and don't need assistance with that. However, this is the first time I've ever done this with Daz Studio, and I was wondering if there are any suggestions or hidden things to look for (like, if I put the software and library on the D drive will it automatically be configured to download content to the D drive, or is there somewhere I need to set that?). Are there any scripts or add-ons that have hard-coded parameters that will cause problems with my planned configuration?

  • The key thing is that the system sees the CMS and Content Library correctly-- installing on anything other than the C: drive can cause trouble, but can be addressed. There are parameters under Daz Preferences, the Content Library and CMS settings may have to be adjusted. Also, if you;ve got purchased content, Daz Install Manager should have the path to your content library on the SSD

Thankis. That's in the ballpark of the kind of stuff I was guessing that I would need to look out for. I probably would have remembered to change the DIM settings, but thanks for reminding me so I don't have to change it later.

One vital thing to remember about the DIM settings — among them is the one for the location where the downloaded installers are stored. Unless you've set DIM to delete them after installing, these will accumulate on the DIM's default drive, which happens to be your SSD.

Also, it avoids a few tricky problems if you change the D|S and DIM settings (remembering that the two programs do not talk to each other and must both be set up individually) before you download and install any content or plugins.

I had to think about what you said for a minute , and then a light bulb went off over my head. That makes complete sense. Thank you for the tip.

    That's me, the mental electrician.

Glad you were able to follow what I said, I think I was concentrating on two or three things at the time, when I do that sometimes my posts need to be unpacked a bit before they make proper sense...
