Gen 4 Hair and Genesis

Just starting to play around with Genesis a little more and I can already see a bit of an issue with it. As you probably know, if you fit a V4 hair to Genesis it automatically loses all it's adjustment and movement morphs. I think I read on here that the solution is to parent the hair to Genesis instead of 'fit to', but as soon as I apply a pose the hair gets left behind. Is there a better way, or are you supposed to specifically parent it to Genesis' head? I did try the latter with AprilYSH's fabulous Kione hair as that is required even with Gen 4 characters, but it didn't make any difference.

The same issue seems to apply with certain items of clothing too. Loincloths especially seem to be a problem for the auto fit feature as they're supposed to hang, but seem to end up all twisted and unusable.

I guess while I'm enquiring about Genesis stuff I should ask about transferring Gen 4 poses to Genesis using Gen X. Do you have to load the character the poses apply to (say, V4) as well as the poses, or can you just batch convert a bunch of poses by themselves? Gen X kinda hurts my head, lol.

I havnt had an issue with gen 4 hair on genesis. I generally don't use fit to. I parent it to the head and it does follow genesis. I'm not sure why yours isn't. Make sure you are moving the hair in the scene tab so that it is under genesis head in the list. I have not lost any morphs on the hair at all.

Are you using ds 4.0 or ds 4.5? I ask because auto fit was not very good in 4.0. Ds 4.5 is very good!

It worked... awesome! Thank you very much! :-)

Do you have any issues with Gen 4 clothing on Genesis or do you employ the same method as with the hair to make it fit and retain the morphs?

Autofit now retains the morphs in clothing (DS4.5.0.137 +)

Also if you parent, add a collision detection so the hair collides with Genesis and gives you better results. That way it fits even better.

Thanks for the info and advice. I always forget about things like collision detection.

What I do is make the hair slighty smaller than the head and the collision detection shrink wraps it to a perfect fit. I wont go more than 10 value in terms of smoothing.

I'll give it a try sometime. Thanks again.

Off topic, which would you advise me buying: your vascularity merchant resource or the one click LIE version? I'll be using it for very muscular women, but I'm not too keen on them having the chest veins. Thank you so much for creating the vascularity content too. For the sort of girls I like creating, it was the one thing that was missing from a realism standpoint. Cheers!

Not having any problems with this, just checked it out with Bechet Braids and the morphs came through perfectly.

Are you using Studio 4.0 rather than 4.5? Not carrying morphs through autofit was a 4.0 issue that was fixed in 4.5.

As for poses, I've never bothered converting them, they're usually close enough it doesn't take more than a few seconds to fix them, if they need fixing at all.

I'm using 4.5 since a few days ago. The issue seems to be resolved just by parenting the hair to Genesis' head, so I haven't tried the fit to option since I installed 4.5.

So how do you go about applying Gen 4 boots and shoes to Genesis. The auto fit feature won't fit the foot area of the boot properly even if I've applied any foot pose that comes with them.

Presently I'm trying to get the boots for the Blade Maiden outfit to fit but nothing seems to work.

While autofit generally does a good job with hair in DS4.5+, it is not always the best choice.

Some hair will autofit just fine but does not look right because parts may be streched or crumpled. Parenting will avoid that.

Also, some hair has movement controlled by bones. Autofit does not transfer bones so you end up with a bunch of movement dials that don't do anything. You will either have to make bones for those dials - or parent the hair to retain the original bones.

Thank you very much for the links, gilikshe, but I think I'll just stick to using V4 until Daz or someone else makes it possible to use Gen 4 footwear on Genesis without such unnecessary messing around. Frankly, I'm amazed that Daz have the audacity to exalt Genesis and it's auto fit feature when it can't even cope with a simple pair of high heels without re-rigging. To date there are 26 items of footwear created to work with Genesis. None of them are suitable for the sort of scenes I create.

Thanks again for your help :-)
