That's another fine mesh you've gotten us into.

I was just wondering if there is a utility either for Daz Studio itself or as a stand alone that takes the shape of one mesh and does it's best to replicate that shape on another object's mesh.

For example if I sculpted a figure in Sculptris and I wanted to convert it into a Genesis morph, it would analyse the obj file and do its best to replicate it on the Genesis mesh without altering the geometry of the genesis mesh.

There are various tools that will constrain one mesh to another (which is what you want). For example, place the shaped mesh in a background layer in modo and apply background constraint, then use the sculpting brushes to push the Genesis mesh on a foreground layer onto the background mesh (not that it would be fully automatic in this case, and I suspect even if you found a nominally automatic tool the results would need tweaking). I'm not sure if there are any cheap or free tools that will do this - Sculptris may, or try looking at Blender.

The Blender shrinkwrap might be able to pull it off...but it would be far from automatic.

Now that poses an interesting question...most of the time the shrinkwrapping questions involve using it to make things molded to Genesis...but how about the other way...molding Genesis to something else?

That would depend on who held the rights - something you created yourself you could use shrink-wrap to make a morph target, something made by another you couldn't unless they gave permission (as would be the case however you made the morph).

It would all be stuff I sculpt myself. I'm really digging this Sculptris program. It's not as good as Z-Brush but it's still in its alpha release and shows great promise. And free to boot is nice.

It's been an 'alpha' release for a couple of years now...unfortunately, it looks like snails move at a faster pace than development on Sculptris.

Has anyone figures out how to paint a genesis figure in Sculptris? It doesn't seem to use the Genesis UV map when you paint so you get really odd artifacts. Like when you paint the head the belly gets painted with a face on it. It would be nice to be able to paint different skin textures directly on a 3D models.

If not is there any other software that will allow painting a texture map directly upon a genesis figure?

Lots of others...but other than Blender, I can't think of any free ones...

    ZBrush http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/

    Paint3D http://www.paint3d.net/

There's a cheap Blender add-on that combines Blender's 3D paint with GIMP for increased functionality...

    Newer versions of Photoshop...

WOOT! Found a tutorial on making texture maps for Genesis with Sculptris!

Haven't tried it yet but it doesn't seem too hard, bit of work but not too bad.

I notice that Genesis has several different UV maps available V4 M4 Genesis male/female, Kids 4.

Is it possible to create a custom UV set for Genesis? If I could create a UV map for Genesis that puts all the skin materials on a single image file then I should be able to do full body paints in Sculptris.
