What's the difference between I7 4790K vs I7 5820K both with dual GTX 970 in Iray rendering speed?

I know that a single GTX 1070 should be faster than those two but I already have one GTX 970 and I want to save some money by getting the GTX 970 used or wait for a sale. I think that with luck I can get that second GTX 970 at about $200 and save about $250 vs getting the new GTX 1070 which will cost me about $450. What do you think?

So 2 x 970 SLi faster but you got a hotter system and need at least a 750 W power supply.

No Iray drivers for new cards although expected soon.

I wouldn't expect much faster CUDA performance from the 1070, the big advance is having double the memory, 8GB.

Getting the 1070 as a second card might be the best bet, there shouldn't be a problem using them together. (obviously no guarantees on that!) indecision

Are you asking about the difference in the 2 CPUs as well?

We keep telling folks, but the word doesn't seem to get out. SLI is NOT recommended (by Nvidia) for Iray.

I bought a nvidia 1080, found there were no drivers for Iray so swapped for a second 980Ti with my son who only does games. First time I adopted SLi but it does actually work and is markedly faster doing Iray in Daz Studio. I wont bother buying nvidia cards when first released in future.
