Wonder if it's a faulty RAM problem .... Puzzling surprise

Oh man... so this really is starting to sound like Antivirus or Firewall - especially if those settings were saved over from before re-installing Windows.

If a little box came up saying that Carrara was trying to access xxx and it was set to not show again, but then the wrong button was pushed - that would certainly prevent Carrara from accessing your files!

What a nightmare, Argus... I'm so sorry for you right now!

I'm not sure what Daz3d can do... Carrara certainly isn't doing this to everybody.

  • Or hardware as suggested maybe Carrara just detects it first

  • When you create a scene, you should have a camera and a light instanced in the scene and, If I underestand corerctly, that part is working. So maybe only instances with a geometry primitive are failing. It could mean several things. One of them could be a faulty modifier that effect geometry. ?  Another could be linked to shader ? would you have a non standard extension installed ?

Argus what I said about MS redistributable stuff

    http://forum.reallusion.com/295619/iClone-and-CC-stopped-working

    here is an example

I do not know much but I have had apps where I had to go to Microsoft and get version needed in accompaning readmes before as needed one not on my PC so just maybe that could be it, someone more knowledgeable may know or just maybegrab some you do not have, in my programs and features there are a pile listed.

searching c++ at Microsoft downloads gives a heap of em, dunno it it hurts just installing them all or not, prob I am talking out my ass but still maybe worth a try.

  • Hi guys,

The problem was compatibility. One morning, I woke up and my computer was going bing, bing, bing!  And then I couldn't load any .CAR files anymore into Carrara. After a couple days of searching, I called "Tech2go". It didn't even take an hour to the brilliant guy who came to my apartment to find out if was a compatibility issue with Windows 7. Now I have to click (see pic) "Run in compatibility mode for Windows 7". That's all there was to it.   I don't don't know why something changed, but it cost me US120. I didn't do anything. Microsoft must have installed one of its update, and I ended up a victim.

But now I can go  on with my mission and finish my next sci-fi movie: THE GUN. I'm a very happy man.

Glad to hear it was finally resolved, but man Microsoft...  angry

Recently I went through hours and hours and hours of holy crap this is hard Microsoft fun in installing Windows 7 Pro onto a new render node computer I purchased that only came with an authorization key.  I never understood before why so many people are often irked with MS.  Now I get it.

Sucks windows update did that to you with no warning.  I think I'm going to just disable Windows update on all my PCs to avoid heartache.

I just got that latest huge Win7 update. I think Carrara's working fine... I better check it out tomorrow. If not I'll have to roll back!

Must have something to do with OS vs Hardware? Strange.
