Iray Uber refraction weight causing transparency display issues

I'm trying to set skin paramaters on a character but I notice that some parts of the character display inverted or partially transparent if I set refraction weight to something other than zero - and geografted gens seem affected by the setting on the torso - If I set the refraction weight to zero on the torso with it set to .5 on the gens then the gens displays normally - if I set the torso to 0.5 as well the gens displays as if inverted. All parts render fine...
very confused by this behavior - anyone have a theory?

no theory just the way it is. :) I am pretty sure it has something to do with OpenGL. 3DL was worse for this in the viewport when using opacity (transparency)
Is this in the viewport (not using NVIDIA draw style) or after rendering?
