Otherworldly Wonders - Tamesis [ Black Face ]

This isn't meant to be a racist post. But Daz's rendering engine is causing my textures from Otherwordly wonders to render the affected texture areas as pitch black. Does anyone know about this, or is there a fix for it or setting i'm missing? I have all the require models.

  • Is the rest of the character rendering correctly? Is that true even for the base materials? Surreality does do some fairly adventurous things with the surface settings - which is why a lot of her characters have only Poser materials - and it may be that the auto-conversion to Iray is not coping well.

  • It might be the conversion. All other things in the renders work fine. The eyes and eyebrows work fine. it's just the skin.

I just had a look at her in the Iray viewport. Assuming you've converted her textures to Iray by applying the Iray Uber Surface, (select V4 surfaces in the surfaces tab and double click on Iray Uber Base in the shader presets) You'll see that her skin translucency is currently at 1, i.e the maximum. This is the problem. You'll need to dial this back until you're happy with the look of her skin. I'd also suggest changing her glossy colour from dark green to white. Hopefully that'll get you started.

Yes, I agree - the high Translucency Weight does seem to be at least a setting that needs adjusting. A quick way to get all the surfaces that use it is to activate the Surface Selection tool (Tools menu) then right-click on one of the skin surfaces and from the menu pick Select Surfaces with the Value of..., then in the dialogue select Translucency Weight from the list and click Accept.

I would report this as a possible bug - the application of the Iray uber Base (which happens when you render with Iray even if you don't explicitly apply it) may not be coping with something in this character or possibly in the HSS shader (which it uses) in general.

In Render Settings switch to 3Delight.
