Gtx 1060 vs Gtx 1070

Hi all, I have a quick question. I currently have a gtx 1060 and I know the pascal cards aren't currently supported by iray but when they are, how much quicker will a render be with a 1070. Going from 1280 CUDA cores to 1920 should be quite a drastic improvement surely? Thank you!

    Yeah there should be a pretty large difference just looking at the Cuda cores but they aren't the only thing that impacts render time. There is also the amount of VRAM and the speed of the VRAM. And the width of the memory bus which defines how fast the GPU can access the VRAM. Those factors seem to indicate that there should be a bigger difference between 1060 and 1070 than there is between 1070 and 1080.

    You might want to google for renderers that are similar to Iray like VRay to see if you can find a comparison. Most anything that uses Cuda should have a similar amount of difference between the cards I think. I think that NVenc has been updated for the 10XX series so that might also tell something.

    I wish more of the review sites would run Cuda comparisons along with their game tests.

    @erostew

    Sites can't run Cuda comparisons because the supporting drivers aren't available yet.

    • AMD Radeon RX 480 (4GB)  does anyone know if this AMD card supports Iray     I want to buy a new computer but since
    • the 1070 cards don't support Iray at this time, I want to get something with some power to render quickly.

    No AMD card supports CUDA or Iray.

  • OK...thank you for responding to my question about AMD cards
