have my content on a separate Mac partition

So I finally and reluctantly upgraded to El capitan on a new partion of my mac. (goodby Bryce on this computer!) I have Daz studio on this partion, However I do not have room on this partition for all my 12+ years of content. How can I direct the DIM to install on another partion? I have tried in settings and I seem to succeed at downloading onto another partion only to have it then install back on my primary drive!? Tried changing instilation settings but they seem to be for applications not content. At this point I dont have too much installed so I would rather figure how to point it to the right folder and reinstall it all correctly.

a seporate issue is my daz scene files from before, how can I bring them in?

On the settings screen, the top 2 lines of the Installation tab are only for installing software.  For installing content, in the lower left click the + sign to add a new path.  Then make sure to switch the Current path to your new path -- adding a path doesn't make it the current path.

In DS, go to Preferences > Content Library and click the Content Directory Manager to add the new paths (and remove the old ones if you aren't using them).  Make sure you change both "Daz Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats" (and also "Daz Connect Data" if you plan to install using Connect).  Old scenes should have no problem -- the paths are relative, so it doesn't matter if the content folder location changes, as long as the relative path stays the same,

  • thanks Fixm... that helped me get going. I now have the dim installing to the other partion and also the daz connect installing to another location on the other partition. Unfortunately they dont seem to see each other and so I am doubling up content. example I installed wands of wonder through connect and now when I go to the dim it is there in the ready to install section.    Hmm I had heard using both is asking for trouble!

I could mostly use daz connect, as I like browsing there and seeing a product in context that I bought but never installed and just being able to click and install. On the other hand DIM seems to give more options like not downloading poser files since I don't need them.

  • I guess the biggest issue is that while the DIM content shows as an "other" daz folder, none of that content is showing in the product library that you can search easily by product name. I am so used to that that I would find it frustrating to no end to not have it all included. so I think I will just have to use connect. Do you happen to know if there a lot of content that cant use connect?

    thanks for your help

Most of the things that can't be installed using Connec t are either 4th generation products (Victoria 4/Michael 4) or scripts.

In DIM there is a filter for "Connect Installed".

Connect should automatically only install Poser-format files if they are needed in DS.

DIM-installed content should show up in Content Library pane > Products even if it doesn't have metadata to put it in the Smart Content pane.
