Looking into replacing my new laptop for this model G752VS-RB71 from ASUS, and it has the 1070 card in it with 8 Gb.
Does it support the Iray already, or is that still pending?
If I get this one, I need to know if it doesn't . will it be at some point.

No, Iray support for Pascal cards is till pending - Daz has received a beta, and carried out some integration work, according to the Change Log but nothing further is noted and the Iray SDK has not yet reached release status.
ok, Since most of them I do in 3Delight anyways... I guess it will only speed it up bigtime vs the 980 card.
So it will not show Iray at all ? or just won't render?
Think I'll just go ahead and wait for the support? or is that a bad descission?
The Pascal card will not be used - CPU rndering is available, but will be slower of course.
Also for 3Delight? (GPU) ?
3Delight is always CPU rendering in DS.
Oh really? Had no idea..
Learned something here then.
Guess I can just get that model then, and wait till there is support for the Iray at some point.
Hopefully it won't take years, if there are beta's already out there
EDIT: normally I only use 32 Gb RAM in the machine. would 64 Gb RAM improve the rendering for 3Delight?
That depends on whether the 32 GB is inadequate or not - if so, and stuff has to be paged to disc, then the extra memory would be a tremendous boost, if not, then it wouldn't make any difference. 3delight and Iray have different memory usage patterns, but if your scenes regularly exceed 32 GB of RAM for iray rendering then I suspect any mortally-affordable GPU would not be able to help in Iray (if the graphics card runs out of memory for the whole scene it is dropped for the render).
The new card would be a 1070 GTX with 8 Gb DDR5 on it.
For 3DL it really doesn't matter what gpu you use. The gpu will help for other things, like display driving. But for 3DL, you want will want a good cpu, and yes, 64 gb of ram can help. But that's only if your scenes are in excess of 32 gb you already have. That is pretty big, unless you are doing Pixar stuff.
If you plan on using Iray, then the 1070 will be great...eventually. But as stated, it is currently not supported by Daz Studio at all. If you bought this today, it would only render Iray in cpu mode. For Iray, the vram on the gpu is what matters. The entire scene HAS to fit on the gpu in order to use it. If your scene is larger than the vram, it will drop to cpu only. But for 3DL, because it is cpu only to begin with, you only need worry about your system ram.
Thanks for the comment..
So IRay can render in CPU mode as well then...
Guess I'm good then for now ... waiting for my beast to come in next week.
Till then.. no laptop again.....
Iray can do cpu mode, but its really, really slow. It really benefits from a decent gpu. Its an i7, so that's a plus, but even a cheap Nvidia gpu would be faster. I want to get a 1070 myself, but with Daz being totally silent on any possible timeline, I am stuck waiting. I am trying to get by with a 2gb 670 for now, and that's not very fun.
Until Daz supports the 1070, you'll probably be better off sticking with 3DL.
I will, and wait patiently..
Packing up this laptop, and next week I should have this new laptop..
and then the fun begins installing everything again..
Nvidia posted this yesterday about Pascal status: https://forum.nvidia-arc.com/showthread.php?14632-Will-the-Geforce-GTX-1080-be-supported&p=60853#post60853
Daz 3D is ready to go once they get the Iray SDK, but that depends on Nvidia.
Got my new machine, and it's blazing fast..
I am happy with it.
Now waiting for the 1070 to be supported.. for now it just gives me a black screen.
and doing Iray through the CPU is not bad either... it's slower but seems to work.
For now I'll stay with 3Delight... that one is very fast now... have to open up my old projects and see if i can finally render it within a descent amount of time
