Hexagon 2 and export as final .OBJ with keeping all Groups
Hello dear artists.
I'm Glad (and a bit proud, even it's nothing compared to what some here can achieve.. XD).
I created a small weapon that I gave for free at : http://www.sharecg.com/v/85978/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/ChrisKBS-MoonBlade-prop-weapon
Anyway, I have some questions that remain unanswered !
SO..
a) why when in Hexagon I created my model by storing its parts into groups, like:
+ Blade
|-- BladeUp
|-- BladeDown
+ HandGrip
|-- HandGripBar
|-- HandGripCircleUpA
|-- HandGripCircleUpB
|-- HandGripCircleDownA
|-- HandGripCircleDownB
and exported as OBJ from Hexagon, by not clicking "Merge groups"..
and as imported into DAZ Studio as OBJ file (before convert it to DUF file)
it seems ignore groups and then still import my Moon Blade 3d model as a 1 prop item with no groups?
Since that my plan to release an item that can be moved for each part (translating and scaling) is not possible :/
Yet, you must know that :
I opened the .obj in a Atom Editor (and even Notepad++) for see if groups are finally written, and it is the case..
I can see lines like: 'g Blade BladeUp' or 'g Blade BladeDown'
(for sure, without the ' character, so, why it's not working like that when imported the OBJ geometries in DAZ Studio and tick on groups reading) ?
Comments
Try looking at it with the Geometry editing tool (Alt+Shift+G in Windows, then select the imported item in the Scene tab and right click in the viewport Geometry Selection > Face Groups) enabled...if your groups imported they will definitely show up there.
Didn't know that feature of DAZStudio (and certainly many others ..)
Anyway, it's not the true result I want get.
(it's perhaps not like that I must proceed), BUT..
In The "Scene" tab, I want be able to see a [+] icon near from my 3D prop (imported so).
And then be able to see sub-props (parts??) (and then sub-groups)..
Just like we can see sub-props (parts??) of the DAZ3D Model in the released asset named: Dystopia Kruger Mk15
(It's in many sub-parts, I can see that it composed of more than one .pp2 files, so, more than one geometry files..)
But, in Hexagon, did I must release EACH parts as seperate .OBJ files then?
And in DAZStudio, then import each .OBJ, and convert each of them to .dson items within DAZStudio ?
Also, If I import each .OBJ in DAZStudio, how I will be in the possibility to use SAME relative positions (x,y,z) for each objects (like they are in my Hexagon Project for not being required to edit manually x,y,z positions for "reconstruct" the object appearance) ?
Sorry to ask some questions like this, but not any tutorials cover this section, so I'm a bit lost..
The way you describe is the old/Poser way of doing it, and yes, each group would need to be separate and reassembled...but as long as you don't move anything, they should export and import in proper positions. Then it's exported saved in pp2 format (been so long I can't remember exactly how...I think a plugin/script is needed for that).
The newer way treats it as a 'complete' item and the groups don't matter until 'rigged'.

Thanks mjc1016 for all of your answers !
I will get a try to thoses tutorials !
(and yes, what I describe is indeed the older POSER format version in DAZStudio, (since in past, I purchased POSER PRO 2010, but .. it was a huge move when I finally stopped for playing around DAZStudio !)
